Sm0k3y Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 Still having a few probs with that pesky Altitude mission Once we finally made it back to base I ask tower for clearance which I get but then he asks me to "go to alternate" i ignore this and proceed to setup in a hover near pads to overwatch the transports coming in. Two of them land and the other two just continue to circle the airfield. I also asked my wingman to RTB he does the same.. just circles the airfield I thought, maybe their waiting for me, so I landed. Nope no difference, transports are circling the airfield and now my wingman has decided to go for a wee tour directly north. I ask him to return to base again which he replies he will, but does not change course, just cruises along at 107knots at about 2000ft AGL. he eventually runs out of fuel and makes a nicely performed crash landing. Meanwhile the transports are still just circling. Has this got something to do with me neading to "go to alternate"?
Tornado_Pilot Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 mhh, sounds pretty obvious, that the transports are waiting for you, to lead them to the alternate airfield. just follow tower instructions nex time, and i think you should be fine
Sm0k3y Posted November 8, 2009 Author Posted November 8, 2009 Wasnt really that obvious. There is no "alternate" field, only the Pads and runway, I tried landing on both. Obvious for my wingman to fly north till he runs out of fuel?
AlphaOneSix Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 In the briefing for the mission it says what the backup field is.
Sm0k3y Posted November 8, 2009 Author Posted November 8, 2009 In the briefing for the mission it says what the backup field is. Oh really? Whoops, I always make a point to thoroughly read the briefing, mustve missed it. Im in the process of re-installing as I tried overclocking my CPU, didnt realize this can lead to hard drive corruption  I wonder if DCS will add another activation to my serial number? I remember reading somewhere that its possible due to hardware failure
EvilBivol-1 Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 (edited) I suspect there is some kind of AI issue in play. I haven't run the mission after the patches and maybe something changed with the AI behavior after 1.0.1. In any case, as far as I remember off hand, you will get a 100% success score if you enter the HELIPAD area at the end of the mission and no friendlies have been lost. So I would say that if you managed to land safely and everyone is alive, you can consider the mission succesfully completed. If you give them enough time, I think the AI choppers will all land eventually. It may just take a while. I remember reading somewhere that its possible due to hardware failureYes, you will probably need another activation. Edited November 8, 2009 by EvilBivol-1 - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Frederf Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 Why, from a real life point of view, would you be commanded to land at the alternate field?
EvilBivol-1 Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 Again, I don't think that was designed into the mission (even if included into the brief for informational purposes), so it's probably an AI/ATC issue or perhaps something with the way he's flying it. Not sure without a track or ability to test at the moment. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer. The Parable of Jane's A-10 Forum Rules
HammerUK9 Posted November 8, 2009 Posted November 8, 2009 Most likely a problem at the primary field - some kind of accident, essential equipment gone U/S; in the context of the sim, maybe an attack was known to be inbound for the primary, and the a/c were redirected to keep them safe
EtherealN Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Im in the process of re-installing as I tried overclocking my CPU, didnt realize this can lead to hard drive corruption  Wow... Don't blame yourself for not realizing that - I have a hard time figuring out a way through which that would happen. Might be correlation without causation - that is, the overclocking did not cause the corruption, they just happened at the same time. But of course it's hard to say without being hands-on. Since there's quite a few of us on this board that do overclock you could open a discussion about that on the PC Hardware section, see if anyone else knows something that would shed light on how that happened. After a bit of reading on the subject apparently it is caused by data going into RAM gets corrupted on its way to the hard drive due to differing frequencies. This only happens on mainboards that have their PCI and RAM frequencies locked to the CPU. But as you said. This is for the hardware forum. Back to subject. I tried that mission again last night, this time I didnt get the "go to alternate" message......until I had landed  now 1 pair of transports had landed and the other pair and my wingie decided to fly north after a couple of laps around the airfield. This is very very strange. EDIT: There is no "alternate" LZ in the briefing
EvilBivol-1 Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Having made that mission, I can only tell you one thing - you should not have to fly to any alternate airfield. You should be landing on the FARPs and as far as I remember, doing so will earn you the 100% score as long as everyone else is alive when you do. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. We'll only once has everyone made it back to the LZ and landed without me receiving the "go to alternate" message from the tower. Yet I still only got 50% Im writting this off as buggy AI
