markbond Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Been using the easy flight model recently while I find my way around. Not sure but it appears that trim has no effect in the easy flight model compared to the real model. Is this right? Switched to easy model as often got the choper waving all over the place when activating auto hover. Would often slowly approach an air field, activate the auto hover before gradually descending to land but when I press LALT+T it often rocked and swayed all over the place, often hitting the ground. Any ideas as to what I may be doing wrong. Would much prefer to use the real model as the easy is a bit too easy. Maybe I messed up the trimming? Do people regularly reset the trim (not just trim but completely reset) Any advice much appreciated. Thanks Mark

Ain't got the Foggiest - But I'd Presume So. .....Switched to easy model as often got the chopper waving all over the place when activating auto hover..... I would guess that you activated Auto-Hover at a Groundspeed exceeding 4-5km/h, no? That coupled with an Out-of-Trim Helo spells Disaster for the Novice Pilot. ....Would often slowly approach an air field, activate the auto hover before gradually descending to land..... Do not use Auto-Hover to land - Do it by feel......It will come with practice. ...Do people regularly reset the trim (not just trim but completely reset) Never. The Trim-Reset is Medusa's Bedfellow! EtherealN Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Indeed, easy model does not care about trim. In the real Ka-50 your trimming is that a set of springs will change the centre-position of your cyclic and pedals to where you have them when you release the trim button. Let's say you have completed a maneuver and find yourself needing 3 degrees left on cyclic to maintain a stable attitude, you then release the trim there and those springs will cause your cyclic to stay there if you release it. This is basically meant to decrease pilot workload since he can then release controls, which is a common issue on rotary aircraft. The trimming thus happens in the linkage to the stick, not (as with many fixed-wing aircraft) through manipulating special trim surfaces associated with control surfaces at the elevators or ailerons. The simplified flight model does not require this level of detail. (And by the way, Viper, I only know this because I troubleshot guys issues a while back. I don't fly on simple. Get off my back. :( ) :P On autohover, it is important to note that your autopilot has limited authority. The easiest way to visualize this is to imagine the amount of control movement available to you as the 100%, and the autopilot will be able to do perhaps around 20% of that. So the strongest input available to the autopilot is 20% of yours. For this reason, the autopilot will be a lot slower in adjusting for an unstable attitude than you would be. So while the general guideline for entry into auto-hover is 0-5 km/h airspeed, it should be noted that just "passing through" that envelope may not be enough. Optimally you want to trim yourself to the point where you would stay in there even without the autopilot before initiating auto-hover. The job of the autopilot then is to maintain your hover compared to your ground position (as opposed to air position in case there is wind), hich it's limited control authority usually is capable of doing, as opposed to establishing a hover. Generally, though, Viper got it good but I just have to be more awesome than him. :P [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester

markbond Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 trim works in training mission but not real missions I have reverted to the real flight model and turned off easy avionics. I get the trim working properly when I take over control in the training missions. However, when ever I start a proper mission the trim does not work. I use RCTRL+ENTER to display the trimming info and it definataly does not work. I have double checked to options and ticked use these preferences in all missions. Any help? thanks Mark
