JAG Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Hi guys, I've stopped my project for a home made cockpit because I red in other post, if you use more than 2 monitors the fps in the game are reduced drastically. For me this is dissapointing because the projects showed in this forum are really amazing and they require a lot of effort to be completed, and I think it's sad that you can't enjoy the game fully after that. In my project I was thinking in using a 19" lcd monitor to show alt, speed and other instruments, a 15" lcd to show abris, and a samsung mini lcd 7" to show skval. Before write the main question, I want to make a little tecnical question about the mini lcd. The mini lcd is connected via usb, not vga port, If I use one to show abris or shkval will the game start to show reduced fps? I hope not, because I had planning to buy one on monday :( So I ask the main question respectfully, should I continue with my project? Thanks, un saludo. Kuky Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Wether or not you should continue is up to you... what I can tell you is that I have 7" touchscreen that I tried using together with main 24" monitor and have ABRIS on the 7"... since I couldn't use full screen to run these on native resolution my framerate was very bad I have to say... it was in single digits compared to very playable 40-50fps average with one monitor on same setings... if I used destop stretch and had both monitor same resolution (it looks crap on big monitor though) framerate was not that bad.... it was reduced by still quite playable (I'd say 25-30fps averate roughly) PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
Gadroc Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 It is possible to get acceptable performance (don't read that as great) with multiple monitors with in reason. Several people on the forum are doing so. I currently run a 1920x1200 primary display with a 1024x768 monitor half filled with ABRIS on the primary video card. I then run the shkval off a secondary video card. This all runs with a very steady 30fps, including a Export.lua file which sends data across the network every frame. ABRIS needs to be displayed from the same video card as your primary display. Putting the ABRIS on a secondary video card (including USB I assume) is an instant frame rate killer. Be cautious when planning huge resolution primary displays. Many of the times I've seen people complain about performance issues with pits they've been trying huge primary display resolutions with TH2G setups. Think about getting a larger primary display or projector instead. Don't just do the math when figuring out what monitor arrangement you should do. Some people have had more luck with horizontal screen arrangements even though vertical resulted in a similar number of pixels. I don't know if a USB monitor will be usable with Black Shark. USB monitors have limited bandwidth and graphics hardware. They do not traditionally have 3D acceleration built in so games will not perform on them. The only possible use for it would be Shkval, but I have not tested with a USB monitor for that.
JG14_Smil Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 (edited) Hello, I am using two monitors, one for shkval and abris, other for the main view. While both are 1920x1200 monitors, I run them at 1080 vertical and I get much better fps in BS. I note D3DOverrider helps get me smoother fps also. Even though I am running in the windowed mode it is quite playable 20-60 fps in all my MP flying (though I admit I hate the '20' part- it is only at busy airports). I have the shkval and abris sized true to life (or so) and run BS at 3500x1080 (1920x1080 main view). This leaves some empty monitor to show the right three guages (BSVP), but while I have gotten this setup to run smoothly, the BSVP on the main system is a real fps killer. Without the BSVP running, it is good and playable for me in MP and I just love looking at the normal sized shkval and abris. I do miss those three guages though. I have done multi monitor wide view and it is very cool but hard to run smoothly enough to enjoy while in the cockpit. External views look awesome in wide view! As Gadroc states, the projector is probably the way to go for the large main view. Running a mini monitor would really bite you in the arse in MP UI, even if it did work, which it won't (very well, anyway) with a USB hookup. Edited November 28, 2009 by JG14_Smil
JAG Posted November 28, 2009 Author Posted November 28, 2009 That are good news guys, I had planed to start building at least the front panel and the chair on december, and with your comments, I think I will continue my project. For the main display I will use only one lcd 19" 1440 x 960 and save money for an lcd 24" for the next year, to replace it. Right now, I don't play multiplayer, because I get home too late from the work, but I will think about it and the mini monitor. In that case I think the mini monitor could be used to show some graphical data created by the user. I was planning to have one that shows the armament of the aircraft, fuel and other things, and just take the info of this through lua. Thanks guys, un saludo  Quick guide to configure ABRIS and LCD mini monitor Quick Countermeasure Editor v1.3.0 Core i5 3570K 4.0Ghz | GIGABYTE MOTHERBOARD | Crucial M4 120GB | 8GB DDR3 1600 MHZ | ASUS GTX 670 | AOC LED 23" | AOC LCD 24" | HYBRID DUAL THROTTLE (SAITEK THROTTLE QUADRANT + SUNCOM DUAL THROTTLE) | CH FIGHTERSTICK | SAITEK PRO PEDALS |
