airea Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 I have dial-up connection at home with my computer that I am playing Lomac, and I have a laptop computer that I use at the office with high speed connection. I am planning to download Lomac-FC with my laptop and transfer the installer to my desktop computer. Is it possible to download the installer with a computer and play the game on another computer? Of course, I will make all the registration job with the desktop one but I am worried whether this Starforce crap makes it compulsory to use the same machine for playing the game that you used for downloading... I know it is a wierd question but this what my situaiton is:)
Asterix28573 Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 Hi, I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure that you can download the add-on using whatever computer you wish to, then copy the downloaded file into your "playing" machine by any means (network, CD, etc...) and install it there. The Starforce "hardware" number calculation is performed at the moment of your register it, this is the first time you run the game. Then you must enter your purchase number, the activation takes place, etc... No machine binding is performed during downloading. Allochtoon Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 Even if you download it at Tokio, burn the cd, ship it to Siberia, and starforce the game there via satelite, then it will work.
bflagg Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 it will work, but will take up a activation count since your hardware has changed (remember..register MANUALLY) Thanks, Brett
Joe Kurr Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 it will work, but will take up a activation count since your hardware has changed (remember..register MANUALLY) How can the software sense a hardware change if it is the first time it runs? AFAIK, web browsers don't supply the hardware info needed to detect a hardware change. (at least Firefox doesn't) Dutch Flanker Display Team | LLTM 2010 Tiger Spirit Award
Alfa Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 it will work, but will take up a activation count since your hardware has changed No it wont - as Asterix28573 said, the activation process only comes into play after you have installed the add-on and run it for the first time :) . What you download is an installer - the game is not installed until you execute this :) - JJ. JJ
