That is an su-33, same model that we have in lock on but there are several things that were not implemented on the simulation, for example the su-33 has emergency power, something similar to what you can use on il-2. some modes on the multifunctional display were not implemented and the datalink is missing some stuff, if I'm not wrong the ailerons and flaps work differently on the real jet. I guess Ed didn't have the info because it was classified? I saw on the news that the russian lost an su-30 on the sea after the arresting cable broke and the navy decided to blow the airplane since it was to deep into the sea to avoid the risk of some one else recovering the airplane.

About second pic... maybe it is backup HUD on MFD? IIRC Russians have thought to create only HUD... but then they have found it is good to add MFD as backup HUD. So maybe it is backuped HUD display?

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

The HDD CRT screen in the Flanker and Fulcrum almost always mirror the HUD symbology in almost every video I have ever seen. In fact, the NATO MiG-29G manual states that the screen displays "essentially the same picture as the HUD". I would mention that this publically available manual doesn't touch anything having to do with actual combat, just routine operation of the aircraft.

I've speculated that the HDD in both the Flanker and Fulcrum must display the HUD when not being in a BVR mode. This is what you see in most videos, Russian fighters either just being flown or live-fire with heaters.

Thanks for the info.

In the MiG-29, the CRT serves as HUD repeater. On the Flanker, it can serve as a HUD repeater, flight route display, tactical situation display. As far as I know, most Russian pilots still use it a HUD repeater though. The MiG-29 CRT includes the same switches, so either the other display options were intended, but never implemented or were simply left out of the lighter and smaller fighter.
