Ok, this game is extremely intimidating to me, and i don't have the brass balls needed to memorize 1 million keyboard combinations (i find it's a lot easier to remember the general location and function of the switches in the cockpit) so i need some help. I've been able to master the startup sequence and general flight manouveures in realistic flight mode, and i have got the hang of the trim and auto pilot, as well as auto hover, so i can basically come to a steady hover and fly around. I can't do any advanced moves yet, but i know the basics. I've also figured out some of the avionics (by "some" i mean the only thing i know how to do is program the flare dispenser :music_whistling:). But i can't for the life of me remember all the different keyboard combinations. So i need to know if there is a way to completely utilize all the weapon systems and schkval/laser rangefinder/espresso maker by only using the buttons in the cockpit. I have no idea how to even turn the weapons on, or how to switch between them. I've tried fiddling around with the master arm switch and the other buttons under the schkval screen, but all i've accomplished so far is jettisoning my precious armaments :joystick:. So i need to know if there is a way to turn on weapons/aim/fire/laze/stare angrily at the enemy by only using the cockpit buttons, since my head hurts from remembering all the keyboard shortcuts. So far i've had to resort to using the noob avionics (in combination with realistic flight) since the realistic avionics make me a sad panda :(

Actually, the only keyboard keys I typically use when going into combat is N, Q (ground moving target and align to target), Backspace (targeting system reset), Y and I (selecting station) and C for cannon. Most of the other things I just do through either having it on my joystick (I use a Saitek Cyborg, so this is achievable even without a HOTAS) or clicking the corresponding button or switch in the cockpit with the mouse.

The only one I regularly have issues with is that I cannot for the life of me manage to make the keys for Auto-Hover stick inside my head. Don't know how many times I've annoyed people on teamspeak through asking for that one. I guess I should get that moved to the stick as well. :P

One day I fired up a single mission and noted everything I pressed to determine what should I map to joystick and what notes to make. Unfortunately I've lost the record. Maybe someone elses has something similar. Plus one can download people's joystick profiles (DCS native) and review their mappings. There might be problem with external j profiles e.g. for Saitek SST (profiler) if you don't have any of Saitek products.

BTW, does anyone know of a piece of software that can make key/key combinations pressings statistics or at least record them?

P.S. Isn't there some sort of merged noob thread?

Print off the "how to fly and blow things up" tutorial and down load the .miz file and fly it.

One mission and you will be ready to start killing - i promise.
