I do not get it...

When I fly, I hold down button 3 (trim) on my joystick so I have a stready flight... When im in the right position I let go of the trimmer, and then the nose falls down hard... When I do this when activating autohover I get the same.. When i do this with reset trimmer, the same... I really do get it why and when and how to trim...

I got a lot from this Producer's Note vid:

You can find other excellent Producer's Notes videos HERE

It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm

First make sure that you have Pitch, Bank, and Heading hold selected on the auto pilot panel. Sim HQ did a great write up on the auto pilot, trimming and aerodynamics of the KA-50, it's a must read for newbies:

In relation to trimming itself Matt Wagner produced an instructional video about trimming which can be found here:

What you didn't do was returning your joystick to the centered position in less than 0.5 second IIRC. When you release off the trim button and fail to do so (i.e. you still have your joys pushed forward) the trimmer and joystick inputs will ADD. This is exactly what Wags is saying in the Producer's Note about trimmer.

Autohover - it's for maintaining already established hover only! Not for going into hover automaticaly from 100 mph flight. Check out the checklists of the extended user manual. And this is a perfect tutorial for you

And the last one: Reset trim - do not use it in flight! There's no such function in real Ka-50. ED probably has implemented it to get read of wining before it starts. Ka-50 not trimmed has a tendency to pitch up and by resetting the trimmer you order it to do so.

P.S. The latest patch has introduced an alternative trimming logic. Read about it in the changelog.

Thanks, i noticed that my joystick had a little bit bad calibrating (also after calibrating it) So i have to reset trim before i leave to get this work good?

I saw that it have to release the stick in 0.5 sec but that is difficult :P

Then the new trim logic from the patch is made for you. Good luck! :)

I don't want to hijack your thread but one more trimming thread will be unnecessary.

I've been long away from BS and now I'm back to try 1.01. The problem I have is, I "can't" trim. I take off, stabilise the helicopter in a way I want to go, then press trim and let go of the stick quickly; nothing happens. I still have to compensate as I did before trimming.

I check the "ctrl-enter" diagram and my controls look centered even after trimming. They don't "snap" like they did before the patch. Hover mode seems to work ok though. Autopilot channels are ON( and Flight director off), and I'm using the new trimmer method.

Now, I'm obviously missing something here or my controls are broken somehow.

Erdem, have you read the 1.01 patch changelog?

Yep, I've just noticed the trim works for yaw, but I don't get any pitch or roll trim. I'm using a seperate rudder(I'm using a FFB wheel pedals for rudder to be exact), and a joystick. Maybe some kind of conflict?

If you really understand the following

NEW TRIMMER IMPLEMENTATION

In addition to the original trimmer implementation, in which control input is disabled for 1 second to allow the player to quickly re-center his controls, a new method is included in version 1.0.1, using a different re-centering logic. In the new method, control input is disabled until the player returns the controls to their neutral position. This allows the player to re-center his controls smoothly, minimizing unwanted control input.

The new trimmer logic is optional and is selected ON by default upon installation of the patch. Selection of the trimmer implementation is available in the GAMEPLAY menu of the game options.

The Yaw (heading) autopilot channel functionality has also been redesigned. If the yaw rate is under 3 deg/sec. when the trimmer button is released, the autopilot will stabilize the helicopter heading. If the yaw rate is greater than 3 deg/sec., the autopilot will stabilize the yaw rate to maintain the turn.

and you still have problems, unfortunately I can't help you.

Edit:

Apply the latest patch. Then report if you hear the trimmer clicking sound. If no, the troubleshooting is done. If yes and trimming still won't work, please upload a track file. Someone else may be able to help you.

Nevermind. I disabled force feedback in producer.cfg and the problem went away.

I think there's a bug with force feedback/trimmer connection. Somehow the game thinks it's trimming the wheel, where as I'm using a joystick for X and Y axis.

I find when changing direction that holding the trimmer down till after the turn makes life easier. When I'm going to do a lot of manuvering I turn off heading hold on the auto pilot. Works best for me. You jsut have to work the rudder a bit more. specially in slow flight. Rudder into a turn and then counter rudder coming out. Not to hard if you practice a bit.

AFAIK both turning off autopilot yaw channel and prolonged pressing of trim button are not recommended or even forbidden in Ka-50 pilot's manual.

Not doing both makes flying a pain with a non FFB stick. It may not be allowed for real pilots, but with the conditions we have to deal with in a PC sim, it works best.
