I remember when the demo for 1.1 came out there was a little hack that you could do using the meinit.xml file that would allow (supposedly) you to fly other aircraft using a default cockpit and flight model. I have tried this in the current build of 1.1 and cannot get it to work. I changed a few of the planes like the F-18 and the Tornado to humancockpit-"yes" and all I can do is just look at the plane from the outside (yes, I Alt+J'd to try to get in, but to no avail). I also tried to use the f-15's Kabina-F-15-GLASS.lom and kabina-F-15.cmd files and change them to fit the f-18 name, though that didn't work either.

Has anyone been able to get the f-18 or any of the other planes (except for the SU 39, I have seen how to do that) flyable?

I hope this doesn't irritate anyone, I just like the game so much that I would love to be able to fly a few of the other planes as well.

Thanks,

Well thats all there is to it - just change the HumanCockpit="no" to "yes". However, make sure you do it for the right aircraft entry - there are two different Tornado entries in the MEinit(a German and a British), and also two different F-18 entries(A and C). If you did it right, you will see the aircraft name in the Editor turn yellow instead of white.

I also tried to use the f-15's Kabina-F-15-GLASS.lom and kabina-F-15.cmd files and change them to fit the f-18 name, though that didn't work either.

No that only works for the Su-25TM(Su-39) and MiG-29K(if the mod to include it has been done). The reason is that these two entries are defined as flyables in the .exe, and therefore have seperate cockpit files assigned for them - all other aircraft will, if set to human control, be assigned a default cockpit(that of the Su-27).

well, thanks for the info, but is there another way to get inside the cockpit? It is Alt+J right? I know that it shouldn't be this hard for me, but for some reason it seems to be. I guess I will try it when I get home, again.

Thanks again for the info Alfa.

I think you need to create a mission and set the plane to player. The player option will be enabled if the humancockpit is set to true.

Hehe....well yes of course :D

yep, I've done that. In fact, when I go to create a new mission the planes that are "flyable" are yellow. I have created a mission with a bunch of different planes in it that are set to "yes" in the xml file, but none of them allow me in the cockpit (even though I have my pilot set for one of the planes).

Ok that sounds strange  .

If you did the MEinit editing correctly, then you should be able to fly any edited aircraft entry in exactly the same way as the "stock" flyables.

Did you start the mission with one of these "new" flyables as player aircraft?

yes, I did, I started as the pilot of an F/A-18a (but in reality I started in the F2 view). Hmmm... is there a way that I could get your MEinit file? If not, then I understand, but I am confused as well.

I wonder if I should do a fresh install of my whole computer, maybe that'll clear it up.

Did you back-up your original MEinit before editing?

Just double-checking - you HAVE set the skill to "Player", yes?

I just came to tell you that the "player" setting was the problem. Thanks britgliderpilot. Now, I know this might be a wierd question, but I can only fly the plane that I have set to "player" I can't jump into another newly flyable plane (I know that I can jump into the F-15 and the A-10 but never tried going back). The problem is that once I am in one new flyable I can't go to another one (like flying the F-18 and then jumping into an F-16), is this normal?

If it is, I wonder why we can jump into some, but not others and if that involves a hack of a dll, or something else that I don't want to do.

I do, however, want to take the time to say a big Thank You to Alfa, britgliderpilot, and coldcrew. Without you guys, I would still be getting miffed without reason. I also would like to extend another apology to Dmut, it won't happen again.
