Prophet4no1 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 Well, I can tell you this much. Most of the enemies are in the trees. All infantry. Once I figured that out, I just waited for them to appear and sprayed the trees and aotund wom of the buildings with HE cannon rounds. That pretty much took care of things. My wingman was useless. For some reason wingmen wont attack infantry. At least I can not get them to. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

When I saw from where the tracers are comming, I began my run in while dropping flares, and flattened the area with rockets. I don't recall I used cannon even once. Same with the SAR mission, where you escort SAR copter that pickups downed pilot. I looked from where the tracers are comming from and then covered that area with my rocket artillery. GuntiNDDS Posted February 8, 2010 Author Posted February 8, 2010 did you follow the order of flying "a few" kilometers ahead of the convoy or did you stay with the convoy ? if you flew ahead i guess you then turned around once the radio transmission of the ambush was received and aproached from the other side ? how far away from the ambush have you been while you deployed the S-8 rockets ?

Prophet4no1 Posted February 8, 2010 Posted February 8, 2010 I find rockets pretty useless on infantry since they give anti armor rockets. I will fire every rocket off and get maybe one or two kills with them. The cannon on the other hand can lay waist to the area with ease.No need to lock on. Just laser range a nearby area and slew the shkval and keep fireing. A couple passes like that and you are done. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

That the convoy passes the critical area with the highest speed (very easy to implement with the ME) is the very least one could have expected from a realistic mission and not to mention for a also doable and logical solution like this one: - the convoy stops when the shooting begin (convoy is deactived and is replaced with a static convoy at the same place) - Convoy starts to move and finishes his route when the route is clear (static convoy is deactived and replaced by a moving convoy when all enemys are dead). Edt: This evening i will add my very first playing of this mission (track & tacview file). I am actual not at my BS-computer. EditEdit: I use HMS/Shkval reticle-fix by Duke49th (http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=759825&postcount=34). So my tracks are not compatible with vanilla 1.0.1c. Edited February 10, 2010 by zdXu

Yesterday after an deadly accident in the 3. mission (see post #14 http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=44561&page=2 ) i had to replay my 3 deployment-missions. I accidently overwrote the old deployment-missions with the new ones. So no track of the very first playing. Once the mission has worn off and you know the mission-scenario then the track becomes uninteresting and has not any more the chaos-moments of the first play. GuntiNDDS Posted February 12, 2010 Author Posted February 12, 2010 Unfortunitly i deleted all my old tracks a while back. Would have allready uploaded otherwise. However, this is how my approach was: Did not stay with the convoy but flew a head while searching for threats with the hms/shval. First found the 2 infantry units in the forest that are allready there before all the rest appears. Killed thoose with the cannon. Kept searching for threats, flying past the village near the last waypoint Being suprised (on later playthrough then pretended to be suprised :D) when receiving the radio message. Flying back to the villeage and unloading rockets into the area where the fireing-tails came from. Engaging into turn while dispensing flares. On first playthrough: Flares ran out, unfortunitly still in range of the stinger manpad and being shot down. In general I do not use the zoom function for scanning enemys but rather work more with the shval. I see the utility of the zoom in this situation but I feel it takes away from realism too much.

Don't be so sure! Actually if a convoy is ambushed its quite easy to stop it even if it passes at the highest speed. This may seem odd but, in case you won't stop you can be almost sure that the casualties among the passengers will be great! The best thing in real life is to stop un-board the vehicles and scatter.
