Due to a hardware failure on my last PC I've been using my macbook almost exclusively (I work online) for the last two years or so. Having ordered Blackshark and Lomac/ I need to buy a PC. Thing is; the last system I build was a Barton 2500, so I'm a little out of touch with current platforms.

I'm used to building my own systems from scratch, but I just don't have the time this time around.

This is a package a local store has.

AMD Phenom II x 4 Quad Core 955 3.2 GHZ

Asus M4A77D Motherboard

4 G 800MHz DDR2

Radeon HD5750 1GB PCI-E

Any specific components you don't like?

Something you'd do different?

Thanks for your opinion.

That shuld run bs just fine. You might consder a better heat sink and over clock to 3.5 for a extra boost.

Home built PC Win 10 Pro 64bit, MB ASUS Z170 WS, 6700K, EVGA 1080Ti Hybrid, 32GB DDR4 3200, Thermaltake 120x360 RAD, Custom built A-10C sim pit, TM WARTHOG HOTAS, Cougar MFD's, 3D printed UFC and Saitek rudders. HTC VIVE VR.

Interesting thought.

But if your applying thermal past, you may as well be responsible for every last bolt.

This store is pretty cool, I wouldn't put it past them to have a zalman or something under the hood.

I'm kind of an AMD guy, so I don't mind the sapphire, but I get drawn in easily by anything shiny....

I went in today and basically had them build the store model as listed above, the only change is instead of a 1T SATA, I asked them to do two 500G in raid 0.

It didn't even occur to me that I'd need a new OS, I went with the cheapest.

Window 7 Premium? I assume there's no major fundamental difference between premium, pro and Ultimate? I use OSX for all of my video / system needs, so I guess I'll just be missing out on some media based perks?

Run a third sata or ide drive so you can backup your raid os or your precious files. Raid O is only fun and games if you have a solid backup plan that you actually USE.

Asus P8Z68-V GEN3/ 2500k 4.4ghz / Corsair 64gb SSD Cache / Corsair 8g 1600 ddr3 / 2 x 320gb RE3 Raid 0 /Corsair 950w/ Zotac 560TI AMP 1gb / Zalman GS1200 case /G940/

Totally, yeah thank you for the reminder.

Indirectly that's how I lost my last system. When I installed the OS on 500G raid 0, xp choose this 6 year old, 40G storage drive to stick the boot partition onto. So when the 40G drive flopped the xp could no longer boot.

On what you're missing from not going on Ultimate and all that - most of it is enterprise related or deals in some drive encryption stuff. Generally speaking you won't know it ain't there. You are limited to 16GB RAM instead of 192GB, but it'll be a while until a home user need to go up there anyway. :P (I remember my old Amiga 500 tho, with it's massively awesome 512kb extra RAM card for a full MEGAbyte!!! :D )

Ah, OK. I don't know why I was thinking along the line of media features. Silly considering the naming trend from 2000 on I guess.

Nice! A whopping 7.16 MHz Processor!

Did you have any sweet games for it?

My folks still have an Apple IIe, it was the model with the dual 5.25 floppy drives. I remember opening up the hood to disconnect speaker so I could play F-15 Strike Eagle late at night. Those were some cutting edge graphics.

=)

Sorry for going off topic, but I remember how proud I was, having a memory card that resulted in 1 MB chip memory and 1,5 MB fast memory. A friend of mine had the "fat agnus" and could only use 2,3 MB while I already had the "big agnus" memory controller :megalol:

And then playing the one and only Interceptor... :joystick:

Yeah, I flew F-16's, F15's and of course WW1 planes on it. The big winner always was Frontier tho.

Anyway, that's OT.
