Advice on power supply and crossfire

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, in a couple of weeks I will have the opportunity to buy a power supply for a new pc, but I'm not sure about the best option. I have a few doubts.

The options available are this:

Thermaltake purepower 600 watts

CoolerMaster extreme power plus 550 watts

My doubts are:

1- Can I use any of them for Crossfire? (Aparently the thermaltake could, but this generate another doubt, see doubt number 2 below)

2- Both options have only two pci-e 6 pins, and I'm considering crossfire with the ATI 5850, not now, but by the end of the year maybe. So with the first card the two availables connectors will be used. But when the second card arrives, there is no more pci-e connectors. Can I use the two 4 pin molex to pci-e adapters, to connect the second video card and expect an excellent functionality from the power supply.

Is anyone using crossfire this way?

The other pc components will be:

Phenom II X3 2.8Ghz

Motherboard ECS 790GX

4GB DDR3 1333 Mhz

HD WD 500GB SATA II

DVD Writer SATA

Thanks

I have a 600 Watt 3(12v) rail Thermaltake PSU, about 2 years old.. it's ok.

warranty is decent. t should have enough power for your computer, as long as you are just running the 2 video cards, 1 hard drive, dvd, etc,,

I only have one video card..

you really should read the reviews on Newegg, Toms, etc.. on computer stuff..

also I have no clue how much you are paying..
