Why? I don't know.. to cheat? Ask yourself why people do bad things in general?

 

I just wonder how he can warp like that coincidentally when I locked him and stopped warping as soon as I dropped lock... people were doing funky stuff in FC1 so who's to say same wont happen in FC2 if it's possible?

It isn't a coincidence. The new sound engine is pretty heavy (so was the old one, I'd say) and once you lock him and he gets that warning, if his PC isn't exactly top notch he can easily start warping. He probably perceives this as stutters of low FPS.

This has been going on in LO since 1.00.

There may be more to it than that as well - back then I recall launching a missile at someone would cause a good amount of extra bandwidth to be used, so they'd start warping. This problem has always existed in some fashion and I doubt it will ever go away.

 

Cool, so legacy hardware turns the RWR into an über ECM tool? Sounds funky! :P

A side question, is there any way that people can be using RAM data hack to misreport their position or make them selves lag/warp in FC2.0?

 

I dont even know what that means but why would someone go to that length??

 

I do. I saw one russian guy lagging as hell on the 104th Dedicated. He had 6 bandits on his six and arround him (me including), and nobody could hit him even with perfect shots. He was playing with us a few minutes, till we all went out of missiles. Finally someone got him with a gun.

I reported this to the server admin, and he started to insult me. After a short conversation (only words he could say in english were "****ing американеть"), got permanently banned.

I dont know what kind of cheat was that, but that wasn't due to lag for sure.

It can be due to lag ... poor network connections or poor bandwidth is like that.

 

But then he shouldn't be playing with others ...

If that was lag, it might be engendered intentionaly to interrupt enemy lock. Is there any script in FC2 that prevent this?

Just a simple script that remove players who lagging/losing packets. Hope this is not too much for ED programmers. :dontgetit:

This can be done through the lua server interface i think.

More investigation required by someone willing.

S = SPARSE(m,n) abbreviates SPARSE([],[],[],m,n,0). This generates the ultimate sparse matrix, an m-by-n all zero matrix. - Matlab help on 'sparse'

you guys should realy test Fc2 in win7 as it seem to read somewhere the sound system was now running on a separate core and XP aint great at assigning cores.

 

Can you elaborate? Mabe a link to where it was mentioned?

 

So as far as i understand you are saying that FC2 assigns sound to run on separate core? Sounds pretty cool if its true and i would say it should benefit any OS as long as its multicore...

I think so, the sound engine is new and you'd only be changing sound files (same as for textures)
