Hi, I'm trying to brush up on my vehicle/threat recognition skills and am finding the Encyclopedia very limited, is there any word of this component being updated in the future. For instance you can't even filter the vehicles by country/affiliation. Hell there is not event any mention of which country uses most of them. I have to go and look them up on wikipedia to find out which country uses them. Secondly there is only a static view, not very usefull when you want to know what the head on or rear view of a particular vehicle looks like.

Are there any alternatives that you guys know about? good web sites etc.

Cheers

Tom

Plz. understand the following: The GUI and the 3d engine are separate executables. Because of that it is not possible to present you with an ingame interactive view of a vehicle while the GUI is running.:( Doing away with this is on EDs own whishlist, however (AFAIK).

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

I know this does not answer your question directly but here is another path for you if interested.....I recently purchased "Jane's Tank Recognition Guide" by Christopher F. Foss on the recomendation of a squadmate. Excellent book and great for target recognition in Black Shark. Search Amazon.com for a copy if intereted.

It's not necessary to have the 3D engine active in the GUI, to provide a 3D-view. You could simply add a basic flash or java-application like in the 360 panorama displays or make a simple animation e.g. from 8 pictures from set angles.

For a way to view any of the vehicles with some basic UI capabilities to spin it around and get different angles, there is the modelviewer.exe file that's in your KA-50\bin\stable directory.

KA-50\Bazar\World\Shapes is where you'll find the various models of the weapons and vehicles and so forth (when you click the Load button in the modelviewer to locate a .lom file). Ok it's not the sexiest multimedia encyclopedia interface or anything, but it might help for getting different angles of a few key ones you're interested in.

Type 'clear' and press Enter in the Command: text bar before loading subsequent models or you'll end up with trucks riding on top of hinds and all sorts otherwise :)

Topdog, very interesting but this begs the question why on earth was the model viewer not integrated into the GUI in the first place. It seems like all the hard work has been done already. I can see no reason why that rotating view couldn't replace the static image.

I may have to pick up a copy of the Janes book anyway, it looks like a good read.
