neilr9 Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Hi, I have this annoying problem with clouds appearing blocky which nobody else seems to be having. I've tried every version of Lock-on, Flaming Cliffs and Black shark and I get the problem. I've tried new drivers, and running on Win XP and Windows 7 OS. I now think it's hardware, and am about to RMA my graphics card. I'm running a Powercolor HD 5870 1GB and an ASUS P5K-E motherboard. I'm not sure if its the combination of the two which is the problem. If you have a HD 5870 and Flaming Cliffs 2 running ok on your rig could you please just help me out by posting your model of HD5870 graphics card and motherboard so that I know which HD 5870 and motherboards work ok. Thanks a lot.
cerjzc Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Well I just installed it today and I'm running a VisionTek 5870 1gb with the 10.3 drivers with a Gigibyte Ex58-UDR3 motherboard. I have not noticed the issue you reported in one of the other threads about the clouds. Given I have only played it for a few minutes so far. I will try it more tonight and let you know if I do see anything out of the ordinary. Jeff
HiJack Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 I have the same issue with both ATI 5870 and nVidia GTX 285. It is mostly when I'm on the ground on an airport I see the "flickering" shadows. Does not bother me when in air and flying. Installed the "Remove Cloud Shadow" from Black Shark with ModMan 7.2 and I think they are gone but havent notised yet :P. I also recommend the A-10A skin MOD, nice :D ®

neilr9 Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the help guys. I seem to be the only one with this issue. I've uploaded a screenshot. Hardware is E8400 CPU running stock, 8 GB RAM, Powercolor 5870 1GB, Motherboard Asus P5K-E with latest BIOS. 700W power supply. OS is Windows 7 64 bit (have tried on XP but same issue). I have tried the following without success: re-installed Catalyst drivers. re-installed Flaming cliffs. Tried running Oroginal Lomac, flaming cliffs 1.1 and 2 and black shark - issue is on all of them. Tried on Windows 7 and Windows XP. Issue on both. Reinstalled Catalyst drivers. Played around with the Catalyst 3d settings. Nothing seems to make any difference. Reseated the card. Edited April 2, 2010 by neilr9
Lightning Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Interesting problem, well i hope you find a solution for it. I have an "XFX HD5870" Graphics Card and "ASROCK X58 Extreme" Mainboard. OS : Win7 - 64 Bit , 6 GB RAM, Intel Core i7 920 (Overclocked) The only Problem that i have, are the shadows from clouds .. they are causing very disturbing flickering on the Mountains which are in a far distance. Many people seem to have the same problem, even Nvidia Cards cause it. Some told me to install the cloud_shadow mod from Teka Teka with Modman 7.2 to fix that problem. The mod eliminates the shadows from clouds. Well i can live with that, but didnt test it yet. best regards, GSG_9_LIGHTNING [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
RED9R1pper Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 is this only with flamming cliffs? And i have the XFX 5870 1gb with Asus P5Q-Pro mobo. All working fine. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
neilr9 Posted April 2, 2010 Author Posted April 2, 2010 Yes. It only occurs with Lomac, Black Shark and Flaming Cliffs. The card works fine in everything else. 3D Mark Vantage and other games work fine.
Distiler Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Switch off adaptive AA, or change AA to 2, 4, etc and try. Also try to switch off AI. AMD Ryzen 1400 // 16 GB DDR4 2933Mhz // Nvidia 1060 6GB // W10 64bit // Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2
4c Hajduk Veljko Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Hmmm ... very interesting? My clouds look just fine (see thumbnail). Your next step would be to put your card in a different computer. And if you still have the same problem, RMA the card and get the new one in.
