markriley Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Im used to the FC 1.12 version of the editor and I was able to use satellite view to better place static objects on flightline etc. For the life of me i cant find the satellite view toggle in the FC2 editor. Is it still available? Oh and in load out screens we used to could see the preview of the paint scheme, is that also gone? Exorcet Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 (edited) Satellite option is gone in editor. Sadly, you can't see skins anymore (that I'm aware of). And I can't zoom in the map since I don't have a mouse. Edited for correctness. LawnDart Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Satellite option is under map options in the mission editor tabs. Are you sure about that? Distiler Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 nah, that's topographic shading, new UI (launcher.exe) doesen't have directx render (neither encyclopedia objects rotate), it uses opengl and it's just 2D. But, once in cockpit (simulator.exe) you have directx render, if you press F-10 map then you have the option of satellite at top right. Exorcet Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Oh my mistake. I double checked and I had mixed the two up. Good call. markriley Posted April 4, 2010 Author Posted April 4, 2010 well bummer. I guess it just means several trips into game to see if things are placed/linedup as they should be. I guess youi just have to learn your favorites as far as skiins go so you can get the right ones. Would be cool if they add those fetures back in some how at some point. Phoenix FR Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 We plan to, but not in FC2. It would be great to have it back in DCS. I remembered spend more than one hour to build a Farp for BS. It was awfull, change for just one point, launch the game, go back in editor change for another point, etc...
theGozr Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 Yes quite a little nightmare for this.. Fly it like you stole it..
markriley Posted April 5, 2010 Author Posted April 5, 2010 (edited) I did find this thread and I will try it out to see if what he did in BS will work in LOFC2. Sounds like a neat work around, having single player and multiplayer running at the same time to be able to see what changes look like in-game as you make them in editor. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=47877 Edited April 5, 2010 by markriley forgot to post link [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] system specs: AMD 1100T X6, Asus Crosshair 4 Formula Mobo, 16 Gigs GSkill DDR3, XFX R9-290X 4GB 512-Bit, X-52 flight stick set, Samsung 2560x1440, Win7 64

Phoenix FR Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 Interresting thread Markriley. I didn't see it for BS. :)
jpm1 Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 the map seems much smoother than in 1.1 but satellite view is essential for realistic missions building . i began playing with the editor and my pleasure slowly "evaporated" when i realised what it will take to place the objects correctly . FC 2 seems great and i won't complain but .. we need the satellite in the editor . i want to make realistic missions for a realistic sim . i don't want to annoy ED team i'm just saying that building nice missions without the satellite view will just turn to nightmare SU-25 missions [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Snacko Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 I totally agree that not having the terrain textures makes it a ton of work to place things. Obviouly 3D would be ultimate. But at least in Lockon FC1 I didn't have to fly the mission 100's of times. And I built about 40 missions for Lockon and FC1. It's really too bad they spent time adding cool features to the ME but didn't make it any easier to build missions. Actually made it harder... But I am spoiled by IL2's 3D editor and don't plan on building any missions in FC2 because I just don't have the time.... jpm1 Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 well , having satellite view would be great for sure , but after making few missions i strangely didn't encounter big problems . the topographic system is very well made . i just placed 5 tanks and i placed them well all at the first attempt . same for airbases , all airbases statics i placed so far , i placed them well at the first attempt . it's cool . the map is much smoother than v1 and much less buggy (zoom latencies, freezes) too . seems for objects placing satellite is not missing that much , but where i think , it will be missing it's to make missions where you need to bomb that valley hidden factory but you can navigate placing an object an searching for easter eggs with Ctrl + F11 too SU-25 missions [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
