Two Questions!

First one:

In real life at short distances .....can an AK 47 ruin my day? I mean can penetrate through my cockpit glasses and blow my head/cockpit controls-instruments?

Can make damages to my engines?

Asking this because in the sim I made a mission in wich there is one insurgent behind the tower and I make a low and slow pass and he starts shooting at me and this little Bast..... makes me and my powerful machine run straight to home like a lady.

Second:

Given that we have some Insurgents/Manpads that can stand in the roofs.....its too much difficult for the programmers create This IA?

Really like to Have this!!!

They can screw some missions for real!

Opinions?

Depends on the aircraft for the canopy penetration.

In real life it would be rather hard to hit anything moving that fast not to mention being 1KM away or more, but perhpas with some luck( 100 metric tons worth) and a lot of ammo you can be lucky enough to hit something vital. On fighter planes there isnt much armoring so taking-out something vital should be no problem. Also depends no type of ammo being used.

CAS-planes like A-10 and Su-25 are much harder since they have some systems(and canopy) armored.

That being said I would imagine engines would be the softest spot of any plane, not much protection and very delicate systems at work.

From my experience, 7.62x39 can easily penetrate non-solid(not concrete filled) cinderblock, use your imagination how much softer and thinner aluminum body is.

I'm guessing that a 7.62X39mm round would easily damage an engine if it hit in the right spot- the proverbial "golden BB". One thing I know for certain, the 7.62X39 packs alot more of a punch than the 5.56x45mm, even though the 5.56 travels faster. So you should be alot more in danger from some guy toting an AK-47 than some guy toting an M4.

Intelligent discourse can only begin with the honest admission of your own fallibility.

I've been doing some low (we're talking 1-1.5m) hovers in front of AK-47 infantry in the game to test this out and they don't do much damage. They keep shooting and shooting but I would say it's quite unlikely that you'll be bothered by those =)

Actually the canopy on Su-25 is normal plexiglass. The front part is reinforced but I'm not sure if it can take anything more than a 7.62. On this video made by our member, a Su-25 pilot, one lucky bullet hit the most vulnerable part of the aircraft that was flying at 1500 m. This has only radio chatter as evidence. The pilot got freaked out and had to RTB. I couldn't find the video which shows the hole in the canopy and a bullet they found inside.

In DCS, they have taken out my Shkval once with AK's.

Cool, then our incredibly lucky hit in Arma2 some weeks ago wasn't that unreal. We were left completely without anti-air and one guy in our group scored a lucky shot straight through the front canopy of an attacking Su25 =D

I played around some more today with BS and hovered in front of 10 hungry AK-shooters. I guess I must change some of the statements I did before. They seriously crapped my helicopter up - no vital systems except the Shkval were damaged though. A lot of the panels on the sides, a part of the tail and bullet holes a-plenty. Still, I could fly the bird safely back home without problems, so they are truly a nuisance but nothing particularily dangerous...

Was referring more to the the titanuim "canopy"/cockpit itself not the bubble, guess not making it clear.

On that note I think Ka-50/Mi-28 both employ some kind of bullet resistant material on the windows. Has to be up to 12.7mm at least(50 cal.). Had a video of Mi-28 glass being ballistic tested awhile ago.
