isoul Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 I am thinking of purchasing FC2.0 but I have one simple question... Since FC2.0 utilizes more or less the same graphics as DCS:BS, does it have the same performance "issues" as DCS:BS? Let me be more precise... For example, in DCS, when you are closing in a town the FPS drops quite dramatically (from 65 to 35 for me). Does this happens to FC2.0 too?

Because I have 15 FPS in Nalchik, and I'm happy anyway:thumbsup: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Реальные хотелки к ЛО3 по Су-25 в основном... ASRock PG9, i-5 9600KF, MSI 2080Ti, 32GB 3466
RedTiger Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 35 FPS near a town is actually an improvement. In FC 1.12, depending on lots of factors, of course, you might have seen teens or single digits.
KeyCat Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 (edited) As others said, poor performance flying low over cities is still there. It's not a major problem for high flying jetjocks but for mudmovers who prefer to skim the roof tops it can be! I'm not an game developer but this issue has been there since LOMAC 1.0 and I think it's caused by the LOD system used in this series (anyone knows how many LOD levels building objects has). You can easily see it's the objects count that affect the performance negatively by pressing "LCTRL-Scroll Lock" twice. On my machine things are pretty OK (~25-40 FPS) if "obj" stays below ~10 000 but FPS take a dump if it rasies above that. It's also related to your FOV so zooming in will help since less objects is drawn on screen. /KC Edited April 13, 2010 by KeyCat
isoul Posted April 14, 2010 Author Posted April 14, 2010 I was wondering how annoying would that be since FC2.0 doesn't utilize a so realistic flight model or a clickable cockpit thus making it less demanding than DCS in terms of CPU.
Ven Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 FPS drop over towns in FC2.0 isn't actually as bad as Blackshark for me. What kills FPS in FC2.0 is the Shkval display in SU25T.
isoul Posted April 14, 2010 Author Posted April 14, 2010 ... What kills FPS in FC2.0 is the Shkval display in SU25T. Yeah, that is to be expected since your CPU/GPU actually process 2 different images in order to show them on your screen. Still, in DCS, the FPS drop isn't that high compared to flying over a city/airfield.
ARM505 Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 One expects more polygons to equal some kind of fps drop, hence lod etc, but the Su25T Shkval fps drop is ridiculous, since it seems NO optimisation is done on it, ie it will even display individual trees out to the visible horizon.

I don't have FC2.0 yet but judging from DCS, I would prefer to fly around with an uncaged Shkval rather than flying over a city. If the FPS drop in Su-25T is that great, to become annoying, as you say because of Shkval its really sad... and makes the idea of purchasing FC2.0 a not-so-good-idea!
thaFunkster Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Only if you plan on doing a lot of 25T flying. Funk on YouTube!
