You think other companies have different rules? You think that MS doesn't earn money from 3rd-Party developers making money with their product?

What I've heard is not, they don't demand royalties to 3rd Parties. But of course they are doing money with this ( more addons = more FSX copies sold)

Yeah, your opinion doesn't reflect real business - just wishful thinking and an 'everyone should do it like MS' attitude. Not that you are wrong to think this way, and you are entitled to your opinion.

As I said, a 'third party' can always attempt to negotiate, and no one is forcing anyone to do anything. The deal is in general laid out in the open and a third party can decide if they like it or not.

There's zero 'abuse' in this.

It's simple. The other two simulators which allow third parties (Flight simulator, X-plane) don't ask for any royalties from their 3rd party companies. Moreover, you can do a extremely detailed Afghanistan scenery and they can use it as a commercial lure for his military market (but maybe you don't want your scenery to be used for military purposes). I wonder if you can refuse to let military use your scenery. And I wonder if you will receive "royalties" if ED uses your addon in a non-commercial project.

Ok, probably most of the people who do addons don't mind to let ED use his creation for something that ED considers appropriate, but forcing to people to accept these kind of clauses is not the way to go in my opinion (which probably doesn't fit with yours)

Microsoft Flight Simulator is a discontinued product. Whether "unrealistic" or not, if anything that would make me see it as a discouraging example of that business model.

As much as I love DCS/ED Lock On Modern Air Combat...MS-FSX is only dead from MicroSoft's end..but lives on with the xml coding availabilty for modders...good example is the FSX-SuperBug-F18E if the code was locked the FSX-SuperBug would not exist..don't get me wrong I am a strong advocate of locked code...this prevents from these little weasles from getting into it and create hacks/cheats for profit or themselves to boost the morale worth..but yet suck as Air Combat pilots...so they need to create/or exploit cheats to take advantage of others...either way we as the community are the real winners when programmers and developers are challenged to provide a better product..as I see it even though it was long coming the new FC2 I thoroughly enjoy it and I really love FC 1.12b version...lets keep it going and my heart will grow strong with the anticipation of newer mod's and flight mod's

Cheers
