Playing with the bombs and KMGU dispensers last night I began musing about some certain facts and behaviors regarding their use on the Ka-50.

 

FAB-250 and FAB-500 are not supposed to be releasable under altitude 200m. However I swore I got some new ventilation holes in my bird doing just this. (Yes I was in Auto weapons control mode). Is it supposed to be 200m RDR or BARO?

 

KMGU dispenser in real life can be programmed to release its 8 cassettes at various time intervals 0.05, 0.2, 1.0, or 1.5 seconds. Any chance that we can get different versions of these weapons in the loadout page to cover these options? They would be set on the ground by the armorer but one might also take the liberty of tying the setting to the low/med/high cannon burst switch.

 

The dispenser could actually be a really useful item if we could utilize some of the longer dispense intervals because right now it just plops in a small, dense blob.

 

While we're at it, please give us rearm options independent for inner pylon, outer pylon, and maybe even cannon. It would allow full configuration possibilities with minimal entries. Trying to have an entry for each possible configuration makes the list waaaaaay too long. The list right now is rather unhelpful as you can't get some of the most sensible combinations.

 

It's probably one of those "well it's not that way in real life" things but being able to drop bombs/dispensables individually would be nice. Flying a long way and only getting 2 drops instead of 4 makes it twice as hard to hit the thing, especially WWII style.

 

By the way, we were often told that the targeting computer does not give "CCIP" marks for dropping bombs and dispensers but it most clearly does if you manage to dive enough to get it to show up on the HUD. Is this a problem with what we've been told as inaccurate or are they supposed to not be seen and simply shown via "code convenience"?

i want so badly to be able to employ bombs better in game.. sadly - i have given up and now come to the conclusion that a ka50 is absolutely not a bombing platform.

 

as to the KMGU dispensers... yeah - it would be great to see the ability to at mine a road ahead of a convoy with a dispenser drop...

 

I also would like to see the S-13T for all the Sh*ts and giggles it could offer when I target a few airfields.

I completely agree, it would be really nice to rearm the three categories - Outer Pylons, Inner Pylons, Cannon - independently via the maintenance menu. If this is not going to happen, the loadout list should at least be updated to have most of the possible loadouts. For example, 12 x Vikhr + 40 x S-8 OFP would be nice to have, since the KOM variants only kill by momentum, i.e. by poking somebody's eye out.

The TsM/OM variants are not listed as well.

200m RDR Altitude! This is the real distance your bird has from the floor...

 

Nice suggestion regarding the rearm menu. Thought of it before and it would be a nice mod. Btw I find it stupid to have S-8KOM rocket under CAS menu!

 

I doubt that a heli is the best solution to deliver a bomb... probably Kamov and the various Army Aviations doubt that too cause ... too few tried that in combat.

 

The CCRP would be best fitting a helicopter but still the helicopters main weapons are guided missiles and rockets. This is not only because you can aim better with them but because you can deliver them from a safe distance.

 

Just a question... are you efficient dropping bombs on the target?

Level bombing should be suitable if we have some pre-flight tables. I'm considering getting TacView going and doing some trial runs at exact heights and speeds to generate such tables. It won't be any F-16 CCRP precision but it shouldn't be too bad.

 

I'll try it again but I think I was getting auto WC permitted releases below 200m RAD.

 

My best "by instruments" attempts to bomb a target was at 250m RAD and 200 kmph while using the Shkval sensor angle and laser slant range to judge the proper moment. About 0.5 km indicated and 45° Shkval angle down was right.

 

Oddly I had the best success using a shallow dive with the standby HUD pattern and just doing it "Jedi." About 66-75% of my attempts in this manner popped BTR-type vehicle targets with pairs of FAB-250s from around the 250m/200kmph release parameters. Surprising how good one can get just "by feel." I wouldn't want to fly for a hour getting shot at just for those odds though.

I meant the cassette dropping interval for the regular AT or AP grenades for long, less-dense footprint vs. short, dense footprint. Of course being able to drop down AT or AP mine munitions would be awesome!

 

Many people have tried to edit the F10 rearm menu to give custom loadouts but none have been successful AFAIK. I understand ED wanted this menu to be task-oriented and "casual friendly" but in the end its more a frustration than a help.

Lol now I just have to get the enemy to park their tanks in tight squares like that. It looks like he found a set of values that works:

 

Height 800m

Airspeed 250 kmph Weird for it to be airspeed instead of ground speed.

Range 0.8 km Is this laser slant range? How is he getting this value?

Yeah I'm guessing laser slant range too. Will have to try those settings when I have the time.

 

800m Rad Alt is pretty high though... Do I hear a MANPAD launch already? :blink:

 

I'm guessing the airspeed is needed to take the bombs' drag into account.

I think ka-50 using bombs is only to be done in a clear from SAMs area. Otherwise why not call in a bomber or a jet.

 

Now with multiplayer we are playing with smoke rockets, we can mark ingress for su-25t to come and drop bombs or use the big warhead missiles.

 

Now that we can kill 12 tanks in 5 minutes, we gotta give the jets something to do :)
