1.02 failure

I followed the instruction in the forum for installing the patch. I uninstalled BS. I removed any files in the appdata locations show in the thread. I installed BS 1.0 then installed the 1.02 patch. Upon starting the game I get..

 

ERROR

..\blackshark\modules\me_options.lua in line 2064: attempt to concatenate field '?' (a nil value)

 

among 7 other stack ..\blackshark\ error messages

 

You guys really need to work on your patch process. Since this "warning" was buried in the forum I did install the patch over 1.01c on my first attempt, then afterwards found the warning and followed the instructions. The instructions for installing this patch, which warn it cannot be installed over the 1.01c, should have been included in a readme along with the patch. Something simple developers have been doing for years. At the very least the warning should be posted on the download page right under the patch link. You should not have to come to the forum and search for this information.

Do you have any of the error-files in \temp ?

Or perhaps a screenshot of the errormessage?

It sounds like it doesn't like some of the options you've set - you didnt edit any of the files manually?

Heres a screenshot. I did not change any options on the new install so if that is the problem its left over from the previous install.

Okai, perhaps some of the config from an old 1.0.1 is stored in the virtualstore, and you may need to clean them out:

Check if you have files here - if so, remove them:

• C:\Users\<your user>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50
  
• C:\Users\<your user>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50

I removed all files in the locations you mentioned. Should I just delete the whole Eagle Dynamics and KA-50 sub? I deleted the files located there.

Disregard.. Its working now. I don't know why it didnt work the first time.

Wow.. I can't believe you guys still have not created a link on the patch download page to the instructions for installing this patch. Include a readme or something! I have 4 friends who have attempted to patch and you have no mention of any special steps required. There is no outstanding thread in the forum that is easily located. The most outstanding is the 1.02 patch sticky and all it says is the patch is available.

To be honest I think that installing 1.02 directly over 1.01c, or any other version, should work fine most of the time. In fact, that's how I installed it, and haven't had any issues at all. The disclaimer + special instructions are probably there just in case some people have issues with installing the patch normally.

I installed the patch directly over 1.01c no issues at all, I think Slug has a point.

Socal500, for the sake of curiosity, have you installed english patch over a non-english blackshark? It "works", but it's not supported and problems can arise in the most unexpected moment.

No these are all English versions.

 

Point is... a readme with a note should be linked rather than people having to dig through a forum to locate the instructions that are buried in the second post of a topic that is not even labeled 1.02.

O.K., I'm getting the exact same error as Socal. I've been playing for a couple of weeks now with patch 1.02 no problem at all, and now i am getting the same error. It just started last night. It appears when I start the game, and when I press O.K. it goes to a windowed Gui. I can then start a game no problem, but it won't allow me to access the options. I get a different error message when I access the options, and when I press ok, it returns me to the opening screen.

 

I am using windows 7 64 bit

 

I also tried looking for the appdata virtualstore files but I don't have them. Any help would be appreciated.

Sharkster if you are using windows 7 make sure you start DCS as an administrator, i had the same problem where it won't let me access the options, and i noticed I was not running DCS as an administrator, changed it and everything worked.
