bigdog4215 Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 i ve been watching the producer's notes and i noticed the blue circle on the abris.thats the enemy threat zone and outside that threat zone you can't be detected, thats what it looks like to me.in the data link section of the producer's notes,he did not mention how get that on the abris. It showed it on there when the video started, could someone tell how to get that on the abris.
JasonJ Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 Hi. The keys "1" "2" "3" "4" "5" on your keyboard control the ABRIS menu keys, the display shows what each key does. Use "5" to change to the one you want. This game is no game. Frederf Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 The threat zones are added automatically by the game on load. The geometry is calculated by the ABRIS AMMS using its terrain elevation data. I think there is a switch in the options to turn it on or off but it's on by default. The data loaded into the ABRIS is beyond the player's control. Its either there or it's not. One of my biggest beefs with it is that if you have SAM#1, SAM#2, SAM#3 with probabilistic occurrence in a mission... the ABRIS knows which threats returned true or false randomly at mission start.

JasonJ Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 (edited) Keep pressing "5" to cycle through the screens until the map comes up. The "blue circles" - enemy range indicator wasn't there until I press "s" for the first time. I dunno why that is sorry. I'm no expert and I was a bit puzzled about that. edit: after re-trying it seemed that the enemy range indicator only appeared once I reached 50 meters altitude. The "s" was a co-incidence. Frederf Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 It's calculated based on altitude. If a radar has a 50 km coverage but you are behind a mountain at 20 km you won't be in the shaded zone. The shaded zone shows which areas the threat has line of sight at your current altitude. Thus when you change altitude the calculation changes to reflect this new altitude.
Arclight Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 iirc which ones show up on abris is controlled in mission editor; units set to "hidden on map" won't display threat areas on abris. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] DCS A-10C: putting the 'art' into 'warthog'. (yes, corny. Sorry.)

Frederf Posted June 12, 2010 Posted June 12, 2010 If you have a unit visible but 50% chance to occur and the unit happens not to occur on mission start, the ABRIS magically knows this and doesn't display the threat circle/unit marker.

Think you need to get airborne and gain some altitude first as well. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] DCS A-10C: putting the 'art' into 'warthog'. (yes, corny. Sorry.)
Frederf Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 The circle is calculated based on your altitude. The detection zone is a 3-dimensional shape. The display at any given time is just a 2-dimensional horizontal slice at your altitude. If the danger radius is 0m at 0m altitude, 2000m at 100m altitude, 10,000m at 200m altitude (inverted cone). Then the threat shaded area will change shape based on your altitude. The reason a Hawk radar "pops" into being as you climb is that it has a very small or even zero size for a low altitude slice and a much larger size for a higher altitude.
JasonJ Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 The fidelity of this sim doesn't cease to impress me.
