Whenever i played the original LOMAC I had trobules with the radar. I mean I'd have the radar scanning 80nm out and have 2 targets ahead at 20nm and still no blip on the radar. But in FC2 is that bug fixed?

There's a new feature in FC2 that automatically detects how much of the included PDF-manual you've read. If it sees that you've read the chapter about A-A-radar usage, it will automatically patch up the game for you, and then the radar should work as advertised.

There is a cheat for it, if you don't want to read the manual but still have the radar work properly : go to your install-folder, and look for a file called rtfm.exe in the temp-folder. Double-click on it, and it should work.

I'm just screwing with you mate. The bug you're experiencing can't be fixed by a patch unfortunately, since you are the bug. Learn how to operate the radar properly by reading the manual, searching these fine forums and asking questions here. If you can't see airborne targets 20 miles in front of you, your either pointing your radar-cone over or under the aircraft, or they are beaming you and therefore your radar can not see them.

@shackman - seriously - read manual ;)

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

Scan cone.

Scan cone.

Scan cone.

The closer the target, the bigger the risk that your target is outside of the scan cone. Simply because it's called a "cone" for a reason - take a roll of paper and make it into a cone, place it in front of you and you'll see how objects far away are more likely to be "within" the cone. The closer the target, the harder to keep the target within your scan, since FC2 does not implement the automation systems in the APG63.

Sorry guys didn't mean to be a pest.

No worries mate. This was just too good to let it pass.

I'm sure everybody here will do his/her best to help you with your problem.z

Maybe this helps.

You're standing in a darkroom holding a flashlight. In front of you is a table, and over the table hangs a lamp. Switch the flashlight on and point it straight forward. You will neither see the table or the lamp, eventhough they're quite close to you. Point the flashlight down, you will see the table but not the lamp. Point it up, and you'll only see the lamp.

The radar in an aircraft also projects a cone. Anything that is outside that cone is undetected, even if it is quite quite close to you. The cone is moveable, so you can point it whereever you want to look. See if that works for you.

Odd thing is with the LOMAC manual I have, there is no section on Air to Air radar, since I have the first LOMAC.

But I know how to slew the radar so it tracks from 5k to 20k and change the vertical scan array of it, along with changing the different modes. But can't figure out why it doesn't track targets within 20nm with it set to 40nm?

I just want to make sure that I'm training myself well so that since I'm a noob I'll be ready for a dogfight with pros like you bengo. ;) Would you say I'm doing the right thing or not?

There is no difference to using 20nm or 40nm other than what is displayed on your radar screen..this is just for decluttering purposes...the radar can still "see" as far as it can see regardless.

So, if you have a target at 15nm nose on (high prf) and you are set to 40nm "scan display range" , and you see a blip, then you change down to 20nm scan display range, the blip will still be there, as all that has changed is what is displayed on the radar screen..no actual radar settings have changed.

Are you sure that with your cursor (TDC) set at 20 miles and the radar scanning the correct altitudes there, and the aircraft are there ?

What type of aircraft are you trying to find ?

They are not beaming you ?

Yeah I'm flying an Eagle and scanning for a Flanker or Fulcrum. I change them to train with different aircraft.

And no they aren't beaming me because I lock them up and they're still straight and level. At about 10nm then they start to make maneuvers.

Sorry, I lost you here. You can lock them, but can't see them on radar?

Or you mean that at 40nm you lock them, but they disappear at 20nm? If it is, and if you are in TWS radar mode, you need to keep adjusting the radar elevation so the tracked contacts stay inside the cone. If you go STT, you don't need adjusting.

No it's not that I don't lock them it's just I've been experimenting with the radar scan elevation and apparently the reason they didn't appear was the radar was scan at a lower altitude than they were. So I used Shift+; and Shift+. to adjust the elevation and soon got them on radar.

Sorry Udat but I've downloaded Ironhand's missile evasion video multiple times but it never runs. it is just a .trk file and about 40 VLC audio files. Can somebody instruct me on how to install and use this? I've been recommended this many times but can never get it to work.

But didn't know that about STT mode thanks. Someday i'll get better and will answer these questions for others.;)

Shack,

the missile evasion video you are talking about, is not a video but a Lomac-trackfile.

To watch these, simply save them on your system, fire up Lomac, select "Show replays" or "Show tracks", and point the system to the trackfile you want to see.

Be aware : track-files from patch-levels do not mix, so for the missile evasion track you need to have a Lomac 1.01-install (this is mentioned for every single downloadable file on flankertraining, but I see most tutorials are now converted into a video-format which can be played through mediaplayer). You can check your install version on the main-menu page.

Thanks for the help bengo, it finally worked for me. Except there's no audio during the replay?

Shack, you dog you !

You already had the same problem a year ago. Did you get it fixed back then ?

:( Sorry but yeah I got the beaming down, and understand it. Just now I'm trying to train myself with better tactics, to avoid missiles to be as good as you guys. Now that the game will finally work with my computer:thumbup:
