Wags' replies are more often than not forthright/concise and as such incapable of being interpreted in a manner contrary to his post's stated intention at time of posting, ie what you see is what you get. Smileys are used to convey abstract meaning that cannot otherwise be conveyed via text, ie sarcasm, innuendo, tone etc etc. The written word, in absence of the aforesaid indicators, stands to be interpreted in the strictest possible sense to avoid possible misunderstandings, hence the importance of the 'reasonable' use of Smileys. Conversely, if no interpretation is needed, Smileys or the use thereof is superfluous. :) Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career?
