I know that many here have reported issues with patch 1.0.2 AI driving straight to a target, when they have stand off weapons available.

During testing, I set up a mission with 2 wingmen, and a group of 3 enemy vehilces on flat terrain about 2,000 m away.

After sending data-link targets to both wingmen, even on the lowest AI setting, they USUALLY respond with "Attacking data-link designated target," then separate out to the left or right depending on formation, and then proceed to call "Attacking primary," and fly a short distance toward the target, then climb and launch missiles.

However - as others have noted, under the same general circumstances, sometimes the AI will make both the "Attacking data-linked target" and "Attacking primary," BUT, they will then fly right over the enemy and become entangled in "Engaged defensive"

I found the problem not to be associated with a particular AI setting, even on the lowest they will most of the time attack properly.

Given that you issue the data-link target correctly, what factors would cause the AI to fly directly to the point of the enemy?

Are there any plans underway to release a patch to remedy this issue?

Are there plans to allow a player to force the AI to attack from a fixed position, given they have green launch conditions/visibility?

Thank you for considering this lengthy letter. Take it as well meaning criticism, for I have nothing but respect for the fine job your team and company has done.

I agree, just the other day I was playing a mission and wishing I had a command to say "engage from standoff range", or even something like "engage from my position".

Agreed, wingman suicide has forced me to repeat quite a few missions. Given the amount of threads on this aspect I also doubt it'll be addressed any time soon, though.

On the other hand, the overall performace of my wingmen seems to be better than what I've read from others. Yes, my wingmen tend to get themselves killed for no apparent reason, but most of the time they use Vikhrs from a safe distance and help me clear the target area. Besides, they're very reliable calling out SAM launches.

Anyways, I would very much appreciate a patch fixing the wingmen or enabling said radio options.

I also like them for calling out targets and missile launches. Other than that, I don't rely on them too much as most of the time they'll end up in catastrophic failure and I'll lose my spotter.

Better keep him safe at your side and use him only when the situation allows it so, which means, when AA threats have been dealt with. Until then, I prefer to keep him on a tight leash.

The AI as it is represents much more muscle than brain-power. Better use it that way too.

Ive just had the exact same thing on a mission Im trying to build. Its a shame theres no stand off option or to have the AI use what ever weapon you have selected.

Would like to see this very real bug fixed but untill then I will be handling the long range stuff while my AI does the spotting.
