Rodney Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 What's the consensus as to which OS works better i.e. better performance/smoother framerates with DCS: Black Shark?

Rodney Posted July 19, 2010 Author Posted July 19, 2010 Thanks all it appears 7 is significantly faster than XP.
Duality Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Also, you might want to consider the 64-bit version of Windows 7 depending on how much RAM you have.
PatriotCFS Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Its really had to say. What are your specs? If you meet above the min. requirments for win7, i'd go with it.
GoldStar Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I for my own expirence say : switch for 7 if ur video card support directx 11...cause using win 7 when u try to install a new game the system automaticly install the dx11 and if ur video card havemt support for it u may have lower framerate than using win xp with dx9c. Panzertard Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Win 7 requires bit more memory that XP. And "drivers & fluffy stuff" you install also will eat more memory on Windows 7 compared to XP. So I would recommend 4 Gb memory these days - 2Gb is absolutely a minimum for a Sim-fans. The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open | The important thing is not to stop questioning

Rodney Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 What your thoughts on the AMD Phemom II X6 CPU? Does Black Shark, Lock On FC2, and DCS A-10 work better with AMD or Intel? Here are two parts i'm considering. I'll also need a bigger PSU and motherboard. leafer Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 (edited) Win 7 64bits and very happy. Even for general use I'd say 7 is a much better windows, imo. Everything just seems smoother. The OS installation was a breeze. The majority of programs that were installed on my old XP drive a year ago ran fine under 7. Black Shark was did a little spasm but third time was a charm. The first two tries the installations were aborted because it couldn't locate some file. Edited July 20, 2010 by leafer ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
Feuerfalke Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Vista Home Premium 64bit or Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. Beyond the graphics, there's little difference between Win7 and Vista, though Vista is cheaper now and it's easily adapted to make it look and feel like XP. You can't do that with Win7 as many features were "hidden" to make it different from Vista, like Quickstart-Menu, old startmenu style, built in calendar and email-client, etc. You can still activate them, as they are completely installed with Win7, but components are encrypted, so you need a Windows Live-Account to reactivate them. Just don't get tempted by fencier versions like Ultimate or Business. You will never need the additional features over the Home Premium-Editions. Thanks everyone and yes Feuerfalke I don't need Windows 7 Ultimate or Business, Home Premium is all I need. I could never see myself using Windows Vista, what a terrible OS. I have unused copies of Vista I can't give away, no one wants it. :megalol:
CAT_101st Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 If you have any XP programs that you want to run you will need to get WIN 7 PRO. It has support for XP softwair.
