Razorx Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Ok I've read through the messages here, and I have to admit, I'm disappointed that there's nothing to truly address this patch fiasco yet. I have DCS Blackshark installed from the DVD, which I'm guessing is v1.0 English. I downloaded the English 1.02 patch, and all it does it break the damn game. I uninstalled the patch thro the patch uninstaller, and my v1.0 seems to work just fine that way, but then I tried again to re-install 1.02, and it did the same thing it did before, it broke the game. I can't access options, or other features, it just gives me an error with 1.02 installed. What kind of patch is this? Is there any sure fire fix for this nonsense, or word of a patch for the patch? I'd like to try Blackshark vs LOMAC Platinum, but at this rate I don't see how it's possible, or if it ever will be. I'm running Windows Vista 64-bit, and LOMAC Platinum works fine. I also noticed the others who are having the most trouble with this version are running 64-bit versions of Vista or Win7. Can someone please post any work-around or step by step process to install this thing. Am I missing something? It can't be this hard.
Insanatrix Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 you sure that after you patch your using the 1.02 icons? I know that after the patch it creates them unless you tell it not to but it doesn't delete the old ones and the old ones wont work obviously.
Razorx Posted July 27, 2010 Author Posted July 27, 2010 Yeah thanks I was using the right icons, not the old ones.
Insanatrix Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 ok do you get the splash screen? and the menu come up? Does it give you any kind of error and if so if you could screenshot the error or type out what it says that could help.

Yeah it gives me the menu screen, but errors out when I click stuff like missions or options, etc.

For example, have you enabled or disabled User Access Control since installing? ShalashakaDS Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 i used to have the exact same problem, should be solved by setting it to run as admin.
Duality Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 i used to have the exact same problem, should be solved by setting it to run as admin. Same here, although only on single player. Running as admin did the trick.
Razorx Posted July 27, 2010 Author Posted July 27, 2010 Same here, although only on single player. Running as admin did the trick. I don't use mods to answer the other reply. I thought I was running it as Admin too. I guess I'll reinstall a 3rd time and try it again. lol
Insanatrix Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 I don't have it set to run as admin however I do install to a seperate hard drive from my OS. If you install to the default program files directory it could cause problems. I always recommend installing to say C:\Eagle Dynamics\KA-50\... or something like that.
ShalashakaDS Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Yes, ive tried both aproaches and both solved the problem (at least for me), its just a mather of wich one you prefer, really. I also had experienced some other problems related to the program files directory, like inability to capture screenshots, tacview not recording and modman not working. All of them where solved either by setting black shark or the other programs (tacview/modman) to run as admin. Sure, installing black shark to a directory other than program files also worked (but i really like to keep all my program there, so ended up chosing the other solution).
Razorx Posted July 27, 2010 Author Posted July 27, 2010 Thanks for your help guys. Running as Admin fixed it for me, although I'm still unable to capture screen shots. It's always something. lol
Insanatrix Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 The reason the program files directory screws you up is because of UAC. When you take screenshots and stuff it saves them into a different folder. When you don't run as admin it uses files that UAC copied to a "secure" location I believe. They probably don't get updated during the patch process.
