Hi,

Since DCS:BS has been on Steam it seems to have been pretty well received - thanks for offering that as an option ED. It is quite active too:

One concern is that it has no moderators to help it along, ie provide links to answered questions here or even to make simple FAQ stickies. The usual troll stuff gets deleted and banned, but there is no-one who actually knows the game helping the community along. As Steam users are often new to sims, especially of the complexity of DCS, then it may really help...

Would it be possible for ED to setup a mod please? I understand it's something ED just simply ask the Steam folks to do.

Thanks!

PS I understand the focus would be here, just asking for a couple of stickies that link back here etc.

I am on steam and would be happy to help there, like posting links to the forum here

It actually shows of having 5 moderators for DCS...

Better|Off|Dead , Zach , ocarD , BurtonJ , mnickerson

They are listed at the bottom right of the forum.

Yea, but are they just clueless moderators hired by valve that never show their faces?

I think all Steam forums get volunteer mods by default (orange ones, green ones are Valve support), i.e. these people just respond if anyone presses the 'report post' button. They do an ok job (I don't think they are paid) but most times don't even know the game exists, though to be fair, Steam does have over 2500 titles on sale.

My suggestion was more of an ED rep that understood the sim to help out. Wags or someone known to Steam from ED just needs to ask and it's probably something Steam themselves would prefer too.

Maybe just one of the moderators here could be a regular member over there that steers them to this forum. Maybe GGTharos or EtherealN, they don't do much around here, I'm sure one/both of them have the spare time :music_whistling:

To be honest, just a bunch of mod stickies at the top of the forum would work fine. Nate and a few others do help out, but none of us can do the normal forum stuff as regular users.

If the concern from ED or the forum mods here is that this will be too time consuming or set a precedent that every forum now needs work, then in this case it's really just some housecleaning setting it up with stickies initially and then just occasionally looking in.

PS If ED don't want to do this then I'll just message a generic steam mod and ask them to try to sticky some of the 'Welcome New Pilots' threads a few of us try to bump up now and again. An alternative would be to ask steam to turn off that forum and provide a link to this one instead - I just don't like to think of new BS users not getting good info...

I have PM'd the Steam mods to sticky the Beginners Information thread with no result. It seems the DCS forum doesn't generate enough traffic for them to be interested.

meh, it came out 3 weeks ago and there are 39 unique threads in that discussion forum. Its not terribly important. If you want to keep it stickied just make a post every other day to keep it up in the top.

I made a steam group and it has 27 members so far, its called Digital Combat Simulator: Black Shark. I named it that becuase when you search for steam groups relating to a game, that's what steam puts into search. The shortcomings of the forum are precisely the reason why I made it.

Its not a replacement for the steam forums, but it helps.
