bumfire Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 If you ask me, and I know some will disagree, but one of the most astounding acts of war that I personally think was great and took place, was the nazis initial thrust from germany to the north sea via the ardennes and capturing all those countries inbetween in such a short period of time. That is if you ask me, probably one of the greatest acts of war that has been seen when it comes to traditional massed mechanised war fighting. However saying that, I am disgusted at what they did to western europe in the years after they had initially conquered it, but you gotta admire the initial blitzkreig that just pushed everything in its path aside, great tactic at the time and a great battle win.

L4key Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Battle of Britain The defence of Stalingrad I pretty much revere any person who has been in a proper war. Regardless of the conflict or side, what it must take to put yourself in the firing line for your country away from your family, especially when they are in peril at home like in WW2. The courage of the average seaman, soldier, pilot etc is outstanding to me. I think that a lot of the conflicts of the early part of the last century bred a special generation of people who learnt about their own moral code and respect inadvertently through conflict. That generation didn't take much for granted subsequently and these days it's easy to see why so many people, who haven't known that kind of sacrifice are unable to take responsibility for themselves.
