i found a vid on youtube on how to use the data link(without using the pvi 800 in mission editor) to snap to targets for pop-up attacks! study the vid over and over and learn how to do this using the data link!! sorry there is no voice instruction on the vid!!

The DL Ingress function is rather nice. It behaves just like the NAVTGT PVI-800 waypoint task button but for DL targets. The automatic "turn to target" targeting button is often helpful for missile or rocket runs to assist the piper onto the cue. For gun runs it's usually best to leave it off since the gun has lots of traverse with just a rough alignment.

A few things I (would) do differently:

1. HUD dimming. I like to dim the HUD to shift focus onto the outside world and only high enough that HUD symbology is readable.

2. HMS dimming. I dim the HMS a lot until it is just barely visible.

3. Giving DL targets to AI wingmen, I would give each wingman only one of the targets and not all to all. Human pilots appreciate the clarity of instruction as well.

4. I would use the "bracket right/left" for wingman 2, 4 before giving engage orders to more deconflict their runs or even time-interval them.

5. Clearing all DL data is done very easily by cycling the DL/PVI power switch off then on again.

And don't you love that the AI wingmen had to fly around at 4.7km to attack instead of just shooting?

something been bugging me with this.

Once I had multiple targets saved and I proceeded to take out each one. I auto-slewed the shkval to the first target by

1. selecting it in ABRIS

2. select DL/ingress

3. uncaged shkval.

4. lock TA

5. destroyed target (kept shkval uncaged)

Then I managed to

1. select the next target in abris with [DLINK Target#1] (with shkval still uncaged)

2. hitting the uncage shkval and it auto-slew to next target I had selected.

I don't recall reseting the DL/ingress or even switching off laser between targetting. Just simply selected target, auto-slew, lock, destroy, - next target select, auto-slew, lock, destroy. But can never get this to work again so easily.

I find to auto-slew to the next target I must first unselect DL/ingress then, to select the next target I must either reset shkvall off OR turn off laser! Then and only then I can select the next target, followed by re-activate DL/ingress finally uncage shkval then I can auto slew.

It seems a bit cumbersome to select the next target after supressing the first one. It would be nice to simply select the next target by pressing one button after auto-slewing to the first one. Is it possible? :noexpression: I thought I did it once, but it was the heat of battle and I can't remember how I got it to work.

I honestly don't know what the uncage button does when you press it in DL Ingress mode with a valid target and the Shkval already deployed. I wouldn't think that it would slew over to the DL Ingress point but it would be rather helpful.

I don't seem to need to do anything to change DL Ingress targets except turn off DL Ingress, press the target type buttons to cycle DL point and then re do the DL Ingress. Reseting the targeting system of obviously needed to uncage unto target again since it needs to be caged to uncage.

DL Ingress is really more of a navigation mode than a weapons directing function. The fact that the Shkval is aligned roughly with the DL point (DL being way too precise in DCS vs. reality) is sort of a side dish.

Perhapse I didn't explain myself very well. Also I may have been CLEARing targets before I jumped to the next one which might have made it work. Not been able to replicate what I did.

So I'll rephrase...

What is the fastest was to auto-slew to the next target in the abris after you have just locked up and destroyed the first one?

edit.. ah.. i've figured it out, just gimme some time to write up the instruction.

Say for example you have mutiple DLINK Target set in your ABRIS and you want to fire on each one and change quickly between them.

First Target:

1. Select next [DLINK Target#] and set DL/ingress ON

2. Uncage shkval button 'o' (auto-slew occurs)

3. You may lock target with Laser range on (TA)

4. Fire at target with missle or Cannon

Second Target:

5. Re-set DL/ingress to OFF

6. Use either one of a,b or c as follows

(6a) reset laser off/standby

or (6b) return shkval to scan mode (press 'o' to unlock TA, slew shkval a bit, then hit 'o' again, shkval goes to scan mode)

or (6c) re-cage shkval (backspace)

7. Select new target starting at by point 1.

This thing I just figured out was that putting the shkval into scan mode allowed me to slect a new target.

I think the default keybind for 'backspace' is the Shkval reset, not the lock button.

So it sounds like the Uncage button, while not in ground stabilized mode ( ][ cursor), slews the already uncaged Shkval onto the DL Ingress target... neato.

yes very true, I made a typo there. I have rewritten the instruction, the fixed mistake is in bold font. Thank you.

Yes, very much so. So easy it's criminal.
