KungFuCharlie Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Does rudder trim affect the nose wheel steering in the real A-10? I lost an engine last night (common occurrence for me :music_whistling:) and used rudder trim to null out the yaw effects. Once I was on the ground I couldn't steer at all and I noticed that the aircraft would only turn right... which was very weird since my right engine was the one that was working. Basically, I would throttle the right engine to 100% and the aircraft would do tight right donuts. Physics seems a little weird there even with right rudder applied. I couldn't turn left at all as the best I could do was go mostly straight with full left rudder applied. Once I nulled out my rudder trim I was able to steer properly. Is this how it is in the real A-10? If I remember correctly from my F/A-18C maintenance days the rudder trim did not effect nose wheel steering accept maybe in high gain mode. I cannot be sure though... would have to consult my manuals again.
Scudslaker Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 AFAIK, the rudder trim effects the nose wheel steering, cause it s the same input source for both, in reality independent systems. si iwhould say, you are right in reality it isn t that way and i can t imagine a risk to loose an A10c cause it cannot steer after landing with a trimmers setzting of the rudder..!) cheers and best regards Scud TM HOTAS WH :joystick:, Saitek Pro Pedals, Track IR 4, 2xJoyWarrier, 1x KeyWarrior, i52500k @4600MHz, ASUS P8Z68-V Pro, NV 670GT, SSD+ WD BC+ WD Raptor, 32HD:pilotfly:[sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
159th_Viper Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Does rudder trim affect the nose wheel steering in the real A-10? No. Will not affect the NWS, but will definitely adversely (or not, dependant on the circumstances) affect the airframe and as a consequence your ability to control said airframe. Is this how it is in the real A-10?... No. A product of the SFM - The only airframes with the AFM in LockOn are the 25's. Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Steel Jaw Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 In RL there would be a NWS steering lock. "You see, IronHand is my thing" My specs: W10 Pro, I5/11600K o/c to 4800 @1.32v, 64 GB 3200 XML RAM, Red Dragon 7800XT/16GB, monitor: GIGABYTE M32QC 32" (31.5" Viewable) QHD 2560 x 1440 (2K) 165Hz.

Blaze Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 The NWS button in the A-10C is a pinky-button at the base of the grip. On the ground it engages/disengages NWS, in the air it's Laser/IR Pointer HOT Fire & Toggle Fire, and in AR mode it disconnects you from the boom. hahah what was it in falcon "\" or something, I remember that question being asked once a week on Frugals.
