Prophet4no1 Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 ..... and I was killed by a "building" before getting to the target area. I know it was a missile of some kind, It exploded in my face. I ejected and then a message came up saying I was killed by a "building". Is there any way to find out what really hit me? Since the screens are a bit different than the single player ones, I am a bit lost. Also, how can I spectate and actually watch what is going on rather than fly around like a ghost? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Speed Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 (edited) If you are on the 104th server, congratulations on getting through their nazi integrity checker. I was astounded when they recently added FMoptions.lua to it. I guess we can't use any trimmer values but the default ones, eh? You do know that ED included FMoptions.lua with the INTENTION that users edit it to their own desires, right? What's next, make it so anyone with a custom joystick curve is kicked out too? Anyway, you will die to alot of fighters on that server because of: 1) Poor mission design for the Ka-50 pilots- many target groups require you to fly very high or in the middle of open fields if you want to engage them. 2) Trees disabled- no ground clutter to hide in 3) Airquake- the FC2 pilots would rather just rack up as many kills as possible as quickly as possible rather than do their jobs. Additionally, if you want to survive against fighters, you need to stay very low and slow. Do not let your speed exceed 130 km/h, server lag can make your speed go above 140 km/h if you are flying at like 135. Stay in cover (when it exsists). Hover in a city or over a forest- oh wait, 104th disabled forests so those with Pentium 3s can play too. Anyway, your better bet is to join a co-op mission, or join a squad- OR just FLY with a squad. For example, you are welcome to join us on our TS3 server anytime you want and fly with us, we won't make you join. You don't even have to join to get training with us. (www.16thaccw.org is our website address). Anyway, I am sending you a PM to help you figure out what killed you. Oh and I final note, I have no doubt that the 104th is a very fine squad. It's just that I don't really like how some aspects of the public server is managed, and I there are certain drawbacks to public servers that nothing can be done about. So please don't interpret my remarks as a bash against the 104th, it's just a list of complaints against flying on the 104th public server. Frederf Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 You should be able to run TacView during MP for replay abilities. TacView records a bit more data than the default track recording so replay is more accurate from system to system. Any "combined operations" servers are likely the FC2 mindset with some Ka-50s thrown in for target practice. 104th is this in a big way. Unless you're actively talking to friendly CAP jets and they say all clear then I wouldn't even leave the ground. Birdstrikes are designed to make loitering at low altitudes a bad idea for jets but few servers have them on I think. I think the fast notch is 140kmph and there's a slow notch at around 90kmph too but I forget what jets have to do to get the slower speed pickup. Slow flight in canyons, under overpasses, etc. is the only way to possibly coexist with the vultures. Start with coop Ka-50 players-only missions and see how you like that. Without built in comms it's hard to get people to feel in the team mood and you'll likely see the trail of Ka-50 ants from main base to target area, Vikhr, die, repeat. A good practice is to set your datalink well. Most people leave it on default and end up sharing frequency/ID pairs with another Ka-50. If I can get 1-3 other Ka-50s to cooperate I get them off the default frequency and assign unique DL IDs. It really helps the attitude and SA. If the ABRIS icon doesn't have the "heading pointer" on the circle, then it's because there are two Ka-50s on that ID on that frequency.

I had this happen too twice in a row on the 104th server so I dont play online now. The first time I never saw what got me. The second time I managed to see a sam in my shkval lift off before it hit, but it was so far away that even in shkval the only thing I was able to see was a smoke trail. The offending vehicle was too far to even be in view. The way I see it, KA-50 multiplay is not possible, at least not on that server. I havent tried any other server. MackTheKnight Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 If any of you are in the EST time zone or +/- an hour or two, PM me and maybe we can do some co-op sometime. Scabbers and I have been flying online a couple times a week and it's a blast to fly with some buddies provided you're in ventrilo or teamspeak, as others have suggested. (we use a ventrilo server some pals of mine have setup) -Mack
Prophet4no1 Posted September 15, 2010 Author Posted September 15, 2010 I was actually on one with a name like "Naval Operations" or sum such. I was the only Red team player. A few people where on Blue. Aside from that I know very little about what happened. They had a listing for an IP for Vent. Next time I will have to hop on there and find a wingman. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

You do know that ED included FMoptions.lua with the INTENTION that users edit it to their own desires, right? What's next, make it so anyone with a custom joystick curve is kicked out too? Just an oversight on our part, thanks for noting it. We removed it from the file check. Understand though, file check is there for a reason. That one just slipped by. 1) The enemy can't always be hidden and where you want them to best suit you. I don't understand why you think you must be high to engage. Not poor mission design, just doesn't suit your taste. 2) Doesn't matter if the server enables/disables trees, clients can override this setting. Just search high.scn in this forum. 3) Like you say, mission can do only so much. Players have to do their part. Understood, but you cannot have a preference for something and say that that is the right way for everyone. To each their own. Also, We have a new mission, Rebellion, and it focuses heavily on realism. Give it a shot.
