If I remember correctly the the driven MFCD was well over $5.000 the LCDs from the other supplier were $1.000.00 each but that was like 5 years a go so I may be wrong. You sure have done a bunch of research on FMT (Full Military Trainer) parts to be making a Virtual reality pit.

CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.

I was just trying to help you and anyone else out that may be trying to replicate the real displays. Maybe I can end up helping you or someone else find what they need; I figure that's the entire point of the forums.

This thread was already good but switching to hosted images makes it much better. Boggles my mind how many folk still upload files to their threads, making it annoyingly slow to view them even if your puter/internet is fast cause the site is slow.

Just noticed you have an F-16 grip w/the paddle removed instead of a Warthog. Does the 13deg fwd pitch and make it interfere with the panel or feel awkward on the reaches?

For the curious:

Yes it is an F-16 C grip. It is very comfortable and does not hit anything.

I have never seen an A-10C grip for sale at a reasonable price. With Essex Industries selling the real grip and Bugeye Technologies Inc selling the simulator ones. I am sure the price would include a quart of blood and at least an arm.

Thadiun Okona isn't photobucket a hosted imaging site https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photobucket

Considering everything I had posted in the previous 12 years had been on PB. I think your statement is a bit ...

Yeah, I must be confusing this with another thread as it looks like you hosted your images instead of posting files like most of the builders around here do.. my bad

Hopefully imgur continues to be the 'stable' host, way too many threads have been rendered useless by defunct hosting... which I suppose is one reason to upload files direct.

And if your going to go through all that trouble, VR is better because the whole point of projecting onto a curved screen is for an immersive experience. If Immersion is your goal, a G chair and an Oculus/Vive headset blows any projection system out of the water; but I know you don't dig on VR just yet.

The only advantage projection has over tv is size. If size is your biggest factor and you have the budget to match a decent 4k tv but in projector form (about $1.5x-$2x cost). If we get into the topic of 4K Short throws and Ultra short throws, we are talking crazy expensive all the way upto $20K. If you want 4K im assuming you'd be doing it for the extra resolution candy but a good 1080P tv beats a crap 4K any day of the week. By that I mean, if your going 4K, get a good one (around $2,500). In projector terms, for the same quality, expect to spend $4,000. Also, dont forget to factor in the GPU's to run a large screen at 4K (if you are hooking it up to a pc that is). If thats the case, wait for Volta to release, its expected late Q3 or early 2018 Q1.

Something people often forget, if you go with a projector make sure you buy a high quality screen. I cant tell you how many times ive seen very expensive home theaters wasted potential because they used a cheap screen.

So what projector system did you have i take it you have compared them side by side.

I always used a TV because of the superior image quality, cost comparison wise, except when portability was a concern, which is when I bought a palm sized projector for deployments. I've just done a lot of research on them because I enjoy reading up on tech. I had a feeling you were leaning towards projector so I insisted on a quality screen.

If you dont mind me asking, are you hooking this up to your PC and if so, whats GPU(s) do you have?

So then you have an opinion based on your research about the projector versus either flat screen or VR ok.

I an not sure what else beside a pc you can run DCS on? My gpu is EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 FTW GAMING ACX 3.0 I am looking at getting another one when available to run three out side projectors the MFCDs and RWR.

I have all so read a ton on the subject as well as what work has bee done here. It just appears that no one has posted any thing lately on the subject of projector versus the large screen monitors just looking for the experience of others that have used both.

IMHO 4k projectors are extremely expensive. Downside with multiple monitors are that I believe the are projected flat in the same plane so if tilted inwards for surround it looks odd.

With projectors I believe that you need warpping software that allows you to make a curved screen surface. I have not idea about the cost for such software nor the performance impact.

For the pit you are having then I don't see VR as solution.

Cheers

Hans
