happyslayeruk Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 Quick questions, I have ordered the printed manual from Amazon but have not decided whether to buy the download or boxed version of the sim. If I go down the DL route do I also need to DL the training videos as per FC2? Does the boxed version contain the videos? Kifter Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 Personally I would recommend buying the retail disc version if only so if you choose to use an earlier patched version of the game you have the option to do that. If you buy the downloaded version of the game the download service you buy it off automatically updates it to the latest version with no way of opting out of the update. If you buy the downloaded version of the game you can easily download the videos either off http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/ or watch them streamed on http://www.youtube.com/ Again another nice thing with using the older version of the game is you can start up a training session, hit escape and click the control button, then you're in control as your trainer is speaking to you. I learn better through doing, rather than by watching, so I found this way of learning instead of just watching the videos a lot more effective.
Frederf Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 Training VIDEOS? As far as I know all videos are YouTube DCS channel stuff available to the general public at any time. As for download vs boxed... whatever your preference. There's no hidden boogieman in the download version. In fact it's one of the kindest DL systems around. There are activations and deactivations and blah blah but at the end of the day those are so you don't have to call up customer support as often. I've had to get some more and it was painless. Unless you're asking for 10 new activations a week, no one's going to get upset.
happyslayeruk Posted October 2, 2010 Author Posted October 2, 2010 Frederf I was asking about the training videos that you could watch in game like in Flaming Cliffs. When I got FC2 I bought the DL version and had to DL the videos to install into the sim. I know about the youtube channel ( have watched a few times) but also like the option of watching in game. happyslayeruk Posted October 2, 2010 Author Posted October 2, 2010 OK just purchased it. Downloading the sim, patches and videos from DCS site now. Decided to buy direct from DCS as had no problems with them with FC2. 1 Asus P8Z68 V-Pro/Gen3, Intel i5 2500K @4.5, 8GB DDR3 1600, EVGA GTX 670 FTW Signature 2, Creative SB X-Fi Titanium Pro, Saitek X52 Pro, TrackIR 5.
power5 Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 Watch the training videos first before patching if possible. Then patch. Or you will need to install the training video mod. Oh, get modman as well. Then you can get mods. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Aaron i7 2600k@4.4ghz, GTX1060-6gb, 16gb DDR3, T16000m, Track IR5 BS2-A10C-UH1-FC3-M2000-F18C-A4E-F14B-BF109
joey45 Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 ... Oh, get modman as well. Then you can get mods. Help install the mods more easily. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. happyslayeruk Posted October 3, 2010 Author Posted October 3, 2010 Found that out before I read your post Joey, but thanks. I already had Modman for use in FC2 so ive applied that mod :). Now time to spend a few hours with SST to set up my x-52 pro. The joys of simming.. happyslayeruk Posted October 3, 2010 Author Posted October 3, 2010 This seems to be the result of my landings so far :music_whistling: This bird aint easy to fly, time to spend a Sunday afternoon reading the manual and watching the videos.
