Understanding IFF

So my friendly fire culpability is thankfully on the decline. I have been learning to IFF as oft as I can.

 

However; just now in the 104th server, I committed the crime once again.

 

I tallied a visual on an F15 southbound toward Wpt 2 very very low. As I was also low, I swung around and got an EOS lock in CAC verticle mode. As I closed for a guns kill, I tapped the radar for an IFF - an "R" displayed on left of HUD ... no "F" so I pulled the trigger.

 

Poor 101_Eko bore the brunt of my cannon as I High yo-yo'd for another pass. I locked with reticle for a 73 kill and only then did I get the "F" on the HUD for friendly.

 

Horrified i held the trigger and watched team mate Eko go in.:cry:

 

Can someone explain what went wrong?:joystick:

When your in cannon mode the IFF is not displayed.

really? why the hell not?? So i guess protocol goin forward is :

 

- lock in EOS

- IFF radar

- Finally switch guns at last step.

 

Is this realistic?

When radar shows "R" in CAC mode, it means the radar IS ON BUT NOT locking onto the target.

 

So you won't get the correct IFF result~

My overall statistic on public servers, flying in a Black shark together with fast-movers:

 

100% shot down by friendly aircrafts (allways with missiles)

0% shot down by enemy aircrafts.

 

That sucks realy.

 

And before anybody asks, yes i gave bullseye-info everytime ...

Ouch ... it sucks when people cannot IFF. I feel for you zdXu.
