I didn't see a thread like this yet so figured I may as well start one. We're all (well except the testers) just starting out on this so I figured we all have some fun stories to share about flying this thing.

So I made a quick mission. I put about 15 enemy infantry on the west side of this river, close to the mouth and by a woodline. I figured the story would be something like US soldiers spotted these fools from the east side of the river and called me in. A trigger was set up so that when I got close red smoke would get popped and I'd have an idea of where the enemy was. My limit of fire (not sure what the AF calls it) was the river because my guys were supposed to be somewhere east of it.

I spotted the smoke well after passing the site lol. I started in the air at whatever the default altitude was so I did a half roll and a downwards loop to lose altitude quickly and turn around. Probably not what I should have done but still it was fun. I got lined up pretty well on the river and let my guns go crazy down the west bank. Dunno if I killed anyone but it looked pretty deadly. I had 6 dumb bombs, some rockets, my FLIR magigger and 2 what I'm pretty sure were laser guided bombs. I selected my dumb bombs and dropped all six on the next pass.

I figured the smoke would be gone soon, and when it was it would be hard to find that specific area again if I got to far away, so I tried aligning my FLIR to it. Didn't work. I did the china hat up on selected flight point (whatever they're called) but it turns out the flight point was about 10k feet in the air, so it was pretty useless. The smoke left but I kept an eye on where I was. I kept coming in with cannon passes, just completely lighting up the west bank. At the same time I was toying with all sorts of hat controls trying to figure out what the hell to do with that FLIR.

About 5 passes later, something happened. I don't know what I did, I think it was china hat back, but the FLIR aligned with my gunsight and followed it. I pointed my gun right at that river edge and moved the FLIR just a bit, and it locked right there! I decided the best course of action was to fly out a little bit and put that area on my 2 oclock (the FLIR magigger was on my right side), hit the ap, and start scanning.

After finding the river and zooming really, really far in I found the enemy, well atleast 8 of them. No clue if I killed anyone but these guys were alive. I looked at my weapons and I had 10 rounds left, but still had rockets and those laser guided bombs. I decided to go for a pass with the rockets first then use the LGBs if I missed. I lined up for another pass, going right down the river so I'd only hit the west bank. They're about 2 miles out (I think that's what the site goes by lol) so I pressed the release button. Nothing. I hit it a few more times, even tried the cannon, nothing happened. I look at the HUD and down at the bottom there's a CICC (whatever the weapons system is) error. I went through the left MFD to try to reset it but to no avail. I then selected the LGBs and tried to drop one just to see if it would work. Nothing.

Clearly I only had one option left. I circled back around with LGBs selected and the bomb sight up on my HUD. I went in for the dive bomb, speed brakes up, sight on that little square where my laser was pointed, and hit the big red "Jettison all your points" button. Looked back and well everything landed in the river, but if a rocket pod fell on one of those guys I'd have been damn happen. I then proceeded to make about the shortest and possibly worst landing yet. I still haven't figured out how to use the ILS so I just land by eye and the glide slope indicator. I came in fast and high, threw my speedbrakes on and was barely made it but I got on the ground. Of course things can never be that easy, for some reason my 'wheel steering' button didn't work. Then I found out the keyboard wasn't running the the program anymore and well basically all that work was for nothing because I had to Alt-Ctrl-Delete out of A-10. Still damn fun though.

So anyone else have a good bit of fun yet? What kind of scenarios are you all coming up with? I've barely looked at the new features on the map editor yet but I noticed there was quiet a bit more in the way of triggers. Maybe I'll try making a better version of this mission. I need to figure out how I did what I did with that FLIR first though, and why the CIRC or whatever went out. Atleast it's not as bad as the last mission where I got a big red error about how the weapon I just tried to drop was jammed on the deal and wouldn't jettison properly lol. These errors are fun and keep you on your toes. Either they happen often, I'm unlucky, or I'm breaking the plane just flying it. Probably the later, the plane screams at me a lot during manuevers!

After I first got the sim I loaded up a random mission were she was already started. Proceded to apply full thrust, and some wind started moving me left so I applied right rudder only to go farther left. So I'm thinking we need more rudder, at the same time I keep going farther and farther left. Finally I realize my pedals are reversed as I'm at the edge of the runway. Well I jam the rudder left (still had NWS enabled at about 110kt) she proceded to tip over and take the left wing out, then dropped the right wing and lost that one also, somehow tearing the gear off as well....

All in all it was a great first flight

Lol. My first in experience in the air didn't go so well either. I figured I'd probably only need like 50% throttle. All of the sudden there's multiple alarms going off all over the place and I don't even know what any of it means. I thought it was a button that I'd clicked so I was franticly flipping switches then BAM met the ground.

I have been flying around all over the place, but have only landed once.

I have a mission set up with me on a runway and a whole heap of static BMP 3s right next to the airfield. I love watching a guided bomb land right on them.. boom.

I really suck with Mavericks though, I can't seem to keep the thing steady enough to slew it into the right place. Will have to figure the AP out.

LOVE this thing. Amazing.

I haven't flown any missions yet but I've been spending a lot of time at the range with the gun. I set up some convoys, stationary vehicles and a smoke marker out in the desert north of Nellis. My first ever gun-run with the new Hog was perfect. I lined up and pressed down for the first trigger stage. Waited a few more seconds, hands sweating, and let off a quick burst of party mix death. Poor Russian fire truck never saw it coming. And his buddies saw him explode before they heard the rounds coming in.

I've been reading the manual I'm on pg85, and practicing the start up I've pretty much got it down now.

Next will be the nav mission.

I'm trying to be methodical, but it's so hard, I wanna shoot stuff:cry:

I thought you knew? 1st stage = Flight, 2nd stage = shoot stuff, third stage = whatever else :p
