caponi Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 hi all, i am back to Lock On FC 2 it is good to have some experiences with the old versions :music_whistling: but i could not resolve my problem with the flying plane dots in the sky ... i will explain: i made a mission Su33 vs F15, gun only , start distance 25 km. i lock the F15 via TDC. first i could see the TDC-HUD-Circle only at a distance of round about 15 to 20 km i could see an apearing dot this dot grows up slowly to a distance to 8-10km at the distance of 6 km the dot disapears and the circle was empty ... i could not see the F15 ... at distance of 2-3 km a (transparent) plane appears ... if i have not locked on i would loose the visual contact to the f15 ... i was wondering why i loose the visual contact between 2-6 km ....:helpsmilie: have someone a hint ? i read a lot of fps tweaks and so on, and the visiblity ranges of structures, trees and objects in the graphics.cfg, but i could not resolve this behaviour :( best regards caponi PS: the planes are able to fly through the trees :megalol: is this the same in BlackShark ? too much ...
mig29 Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 This happens to me as well. Zoom in to the HUD and you will be able to see the disappeared plane again. Zooming will also enhance your gun shooting accuracy.
Frazer Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 This "see through" has been introduced with FC2. Not a welcome feature if you ask me. Too bad you can't disable it (AFAIK) Trees have always been "fly through" and "see through for AI". Basically, the trees are not there and you only see them...... Forum | Videos | DCS:BS Demo1 / Demo2 | YouTube Channel [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Basically, the trees are not there and you only see them...... 1.) this is a feature of FC2 ? i think it is a little bit stupid ... if i cant see the dot behind 6 km i could agree, but this whole between 2 and 6 km is confusing :( 2.) i think mountains are also not available for AI ... ok, they crash on contact, but they could follow you although u are turning behind mountains ... hmmm ... i will continue with a lot of tests ... (incl new keyboard mapping :)) too much ...
Frazer Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I don't like it either. One of the reasons I barely do combat. I still love the sim for it's stable netcoding and the possibility to fly formation and aerobatics though ;) Forum | Videos | DCS:BS Demo1 / Demo2 | YouTube Channel [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Jinro Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Where might I find how to edit the visibility ranges of structures? In one particular A-10 mission, I'm tasked with destroying a bridge, but the bridge doesn't appear until 1 mile out.
Frazer Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 graphics.cfg in config folder. Allthough outdated, you may learn a lot from this "DCS Black Shark Tweak Guide Alpha Version". Forum | Videos | DCS:BS Demo1 / Demo2 | YouTube Channel [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Jinro Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Are clouds also mentioned in the .cfg file? In overcast missions, as soon as I get into the cloud cover the clouds disappear. They worked fine before I got Gys' F15C model.
Frazer Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Clouds are not included in the graphics.cfg. It is possible to make some adjustments, but I don't know exactly where and it will be far more advanced as editing the graphics.cfg Forum | Videos | DCS:BS Demo1 / Demo2 | YouTube Channel [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
G3 Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 (edited) make the planes a flying black dot for all i care, but surely anything would be better than an enemy that can cloak itself at such a critical time i think your zoom level can influence this too, sometimes i can be following a potential kill only to have it seemingly vanish leaving me scared and guessing. i would be very interested to hear if you find something that resembles a solution :) i know/pretty sure you can alter the lod's of the models in one of the files, see this thread for similar discussion: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=57139&highlight=lod Edited October 13, 2010 by G3
caponi Posted October 14, 2010 Author Posted October 14, 2010 ok, this is a known issue/bug/feature (i dont know) ... and 7nm for a big fighter is good and 5 nm for a small fighter is also good ... stupid is that the plane disapears at the range where you are able to see the plane ... i think ED will fix this in the next weeks/months :) too much ...
