I absolutely love the DCS: A10 open beta so far - but there is one thing that I am struggling with, which is gunnery with the GAU-8.

I acquire the target visually or with the TGP, and roll in for a gun run. Once I am lined up on target, I hold trigger stage 1 (P) to engage the PAC, before engaging the trigger second stage for a 2 second burst. Therein lies my problem.

Every time I open fire with the main gun, the nose pitches up uncontrollably with the recoil - resulting in the first 40 or so rounds downrange hitting far past the intended target, which seems to me to be a bad thing - considering how accurate a pilot is meant to be with the GAU-8. Is there something I am missing here? I have tried gun runs diving from 5 degrees to 30 degrees at various speeds and still the recoil knocks me way off target, which is frustrating to say the least.

The other, unrelated issue I am having, is that I never see the "Gun ready" light at the top of the left dash light up. Does this mean I am missing a crucial step in preparing for a gun run or is this just a bug?

Thanks for any help :)

I've never seen the Gun Ready light either, except in official videos making me believe it's not part of the version we have.

As for the pitch up problem, make sure you have the gun switch (next to master arm) clicked UP, so Gun/Pac is enabled and not just Gun. I assume you have though. :) Maybe just try to compensate a bit by nosing down a bit?

Another probably unacceptable method of dealing with this is playing in Game Flight Mode. The gun doesn't affect the airframe when it fires when you're in that mode. heh

I think Matt stated somewhere that the finetuning is i WIP it will improve in later betas.

That would be the recoil then. You will get that on a gatling gun the size of a volkswagon under your bum :smilewink:

PAC system is not fully developed in the current public Beta, although I have no problem with hitting targets. Try aiming a little short of what you want to hit, the recoil will send the nose up and you should hit what you want...and use short bursts they're more accurate. :)

I'm starting to get better at my gunnery. I make sure to research the terrain and position of targets before I make a gun run.

With the gun recoil, I suggest you aim slightly below your target, that way you recoil into it and hit it. So far that's giving me great success.

This is the method that had worked for me (assuming you have the gunpac on);

Roll into your target and use the ladder on your HUD to get to about -30 degrees

Aquire your target and once your steady pull the first stage on your trigger

Hold on your target briefly without firing, the GunPac should allow you to push your stuck forward very slightly without changing your course, this way when you depress the second stage of the trigger your holding your nose down

This had worked for me, not sure how realistic this is but it gets the job done.

On a slightly unrelated note, does anyone know why the TGP moves around when you aim your pipper over it? It seems to jump around when I aim directly at it's line of sight, regardless of SPI or not.
