rjsagel Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 Hello, Where do I look for info on combat "lingo" such as "BULLS AT 110 for 290" I'm now up to the point where I can fly some combat but don't "yet" understand communications. Thanks in advance, Ron Sagel
kylania Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 Check bottom of page 299 and the F7 information on page 639. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Christmas Cheer - A Landing Practice Mission : Beta Paint Schemes : HOTAS Keyboard Map : Bingo Fuel - A DCS A-10C Movie
rjsagel Posted October 20, 2010 Author Posted October 20, 2010 Question Please Hello, Does that info mean that I must fly a "back course" to the Bullseye? IE: 110/025 means that I am at a bearing of 110 from the bullseye and must fly 290 degrees for 25 miles to "intercept" Thanks, Ron Sagel
kylania Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 Your guess is as good as mine with regards to that one. I've never used any of the communication stuff yet, still learning to fly! Sorry. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Christmas Cheer - A Landing Practice Mission : Beta Paint Schemes : HOTAS Keyboard Map : Bingo Fuel - A DCS A-10C Movie
dave4002000 Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 The bullseye is a fixed point on the battlefield that everyone references. It will be displayed on the TAD as a large bullseye symbol. The numbers are bearing and distance FROM the bullseye. Example: AWACS calls you with bandit information "Hog 1-1, Sentry 1-1, nearest threat bulls 040 for 35" That means that the closest enemy aircraft to you is on the 040 radial FROM the bullseye and is 35nm FROM the bullseye. Then it's a simple matter of looking at the TAD and figuring out where that is in relation to you. USAF Bomber Avionics Specialist, Ret. Geskes Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 A good way to practice is to view your own position from the bullseye. When you start your mission, look over at the CDU and select the waypoint page (WP button). Then select ANCHOR PT and click next to HUD OFF at the bottom left line. Since the bullseye is the standard anchor point the hud will now show BULLSEYE XXX / YYY which is your own position from the bullseye. Since you now can see where you are in the blink of an eye it should be easier to interpret the bullseye calls in relation to your own position. Also, you can hook the bullseye with the TADS. First press Select Hook Mode a couple of times on the TADS untill it says HOOK CURS. Then select the bullseye with the TADS cursor and press TMS up short. If you now slew the cursor around, it will show the position of the cursor relative to the bullseye on the TADS. This way, you can make easy bullseye calls yourself by placing the TADS cursor over the enemy position and just call out the number it reads. Hope it helps.
