I have looked and looked through the UFC and HUD sections of the manual and can't find it.....is there a way to declutter the HUD?

It's probably not what you had in mind, but you can acheive the ultimate HUD declutter by switching the HUD mode switch to STBY. Doing so will remove all symbology except for the Standby Reticle.

 

The Standby Reticle is depressible - about 9 mils will get you close to the usual GBL location, and 41 mils is about where the TVV settles in level flight at 300kt.

 

The A-10C HUD is already pretty well decluttered considering that airspeed and altitude are already displayed in digital format, and several other IFFCC display options are off by default (Airspeed/Altitude Tapes, the Radar Altitude tape, Vertical Velocity Tape, etc.)

Nope, trying to get some of the extra symbology out of the way when using the GAU-8. Those tanks are tiny little dots to line up on, need as few distractions as possible!!!

Also the symbology around the gun piper disappears when in attack profile, right?

You can actually change (in IFFCC menu) whether or not the gun reticule occults (occludes) the other HUD symbology. Default is Y.

 

Yeah would be nice to have the option unfortunately it does not work... at least on my game.. :noexpression:

Is it possible to make the main gun reticule not occlude the TGP diamond box?

That option doesn't affect the main gun reticule and it's not supposed to. It applies to the secondary gun cross.

 

Ah ha .. Thx nomdeplume.. So is there any way to still have 'symbology' inside the gun Piper?

As far as I'm aware, no. I think it makes sense that a RL pilot would want to see what they're shooting at, not a symbol on the HUD. This question has been raised a few times and been responded to by ED testers, and I've never seen anyone say it's possible.

 

I'm steering clear of saying it's definitely not possible, but I think if it was someone would've said so by now.

the HUD TDC is larger than TGP diamond.. Just lock target with TGP, SOI HUD, and slew HUD TDC. TMS aft long back on TGP and boresight, now you got a larger square.. Also no more Gimb/Climb Roll dizziness..

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.
