Hi Guys,

As a n00b I'm practicing a lot with hoovering to get the "feeling" flying this bird. Is it normal that the stick (msffb2) is very sensitive? It is very hard to keep this bird centered on one spot by hand. With a lot of effort I can keep the bird within a square spot of 10 meters. (30 feet)

(yes, I have switched on the autopilot and know how to trim)

Thanks for any help

I used the stick and it's the best for Black Shark. I think it's pretty easy to get the shark stable because of it's nice force feedback. What about lowering the sensitivity ?

You haven't accidently switched heavy winds on have you?

Check the sensitivity settings haven't got altered from default on the control screen. If it has reset it. If it's flat try putting a slight curve on it.

Yes, but what is the best way to do that for a force feedback?

No I didn't.

It seems I have to play around with the axis tune settings under options?

Yes tune the axis, I did for my X52 pro just to make it easier to hover...like you I suppose :D

From my other post...

Controls configuration:

- read the respective chapter in the GUI manual again

- backing up and restoring

- resetting to defaults

- start with Axis tune -> Curvature of about 10-15 and work your way from there if you use anything worse than Thrustmaster Warthog

- no dead zones

see Joystick configuration tips and advices for the two points above

- get rudder pedals they make a huge difference, not only in helicopter simulations

- get a proper joystick/hotas already! Most mid/low priced joystick are the biggest limitation of the whole flight experience with such a high fidelity simulator like DCS series.

Saitek and CH Products are the only manufacturers who use decent quality potentiometers/sensors (except Saitek Cyborg X and all similar released afterwards!). That or go for controls with hall effect sensors (Saitek X52 series, Thrustmaster Warthog...)

That said I have no idea why someone wrote to keep the characteristic linear? Maybe he meant FFB characteristic while I mention input characteristic above...

From my experience with the gray MSFFB2 the only way is to leave axis tune untouched, otherwise ForceFeadback will not work correctly. It seems that FFB is always send to joystick using linear characteristic. Let me explain:

Supose we have X axis tuned like this:

idle15.pngtrimidle.jpg

Now, in game I press and hold Trimmer button (force feedback goes off) and set a new stick possition:

When I release Trimmer button (force feedback goes on) my joystick change its position in a way like there were no curvature set to my axis (joystick is beeing set to the posiotion where in-cockpit cyclic is: linear characteristic for ForceFeedback):

As a result in-game cyclic stick changes it position also due to my joystick position changed.

I dont know if there are similar problems with another FFB sticks.

Baal,

This is true with all FFB joysticks. None of the axis tune options work correctly with FFB joysticks... Deadzone does not travel with the new stick center when trimmed and curves / saturation mess up the FFB trim.

Thanks a lot guys for this clear explanation. That was really helpful.

It seems that I have to practice more.

You guys hover a lot by hand or do you use the autohover function a lot?

Don't beat yourself up. Your stick is nowhere near as precise as the real one. And nowhere near as long.
