So i'm flying fast and low locked and loaded :joystick: when out of everywhere AAA and SAMS are trying to get some of this! Well now my problem is I cant see them unless they are shooting, and that is only approx... How can I locate these targets so that im not guessing at there location and start to rain Death from above!! :gun_sniper:

Flying blind and without support and low. Thats darwin award territory!

Preparation is everything. Know the enemy lkely locations, know your safe escape routes, tweak your waypoints, use geographical features, stay out of SHORAD envelope, use the TGP, and rain death from "slightly more above than before" ;)

When the final release gets released, then enemy ADA units should appear on the SADL ( look on pg. 311 of the manual if you don't trust me) for now, use your RWR and try to use your JTAC ( if he doesn't crash you)

same for me..did a mission yesterday..and couldnt find any enemy

and couldnt get any closer before i was tracked by a sam6..

fired 2 times at me..but missed..low level flying didnt do the job..and i dont wanna use labels or F10

i know one thing, that the A10 is gonna take allot of time for me..

i need to learn allot..but i love it...

In my (poorly informed) opinion, low-level flying only makes sense if you already know what your target is, where it is, and what it's defended by. If you're on the deck you can't really see anything, and by the time you can see something it's able to shoot at you.

If you've got good intel on the target and threats, you can plan an approach using the terrain to mask you from air defences, and only pop up for a moment to acquire the target at the already-known location and deliver the weapons. You'd also have pre-planned exit strategies.

I'm not sure how well such tactics work in DCS. Real-world you should have a little bit of time after you pop up before they start shooting at you. If they were expecting you and you immediately got locked up with missiles inbound the moment you showed yourself, then you'd probably just have to scrap the mission and do whatever you could to save your plane.

Then again, I might just be unusually cowardly. :D

Only if somebody has fed their positions into the data link.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Thanks for the help, I understand flying low is no good and will get you in trouble and preperation is everything... But what is the procedure for that one bad guy that shows up out of no where? How am I supposed to know where he is and use my equipment to mark him as a target? I find myself somtimes "exploring" the mission map, most of the time there is no ground support in the area....

yes it can be frustrating - how do the real pilots do this? Is it becuase you are more aware and can tell movement in RL easier than looking at a screen?

There is always unknown stuff and that is the most dangerous threat, the surprise.

So if that happens you have to defend and if you planned well you will already know which way is the safe direction to defend away from that new threat. So then if you survive what it shot at you, hopefully you used your good old eye balls to get a rough idea where the stuff got flung at you from. Mark that on the TAD or whatever, then get some alt and separation and then use the TGP to find them suckers.

Having good SA is key to not getting shot at. Gotta build that bubble in your mind.

I do the following to find SAM sites that are painting me:

-use the RWR to get a bearing on the SAM that's tracking you

- bank to put the SAM at 12 o'clock on the RWR

- make the HUD SOI and slew the TDC (small box in HUD) onto the ground off the nose of the aircraft

- TMS FWD long to set the TDC as SPI

- bank left and put the SAM at my 3 o'clock

- china hat FWD long to slave all to SPI

- make TGP SOI and start searching

Need to be > 17 Kft to have good odds of not being hit.

This has been the most helpful tip so far

Thank you.
