ReaperLV Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 (edited) I started to do my first model..;P Ofcorse, I don't know anything about 3ds max, I know only what I saw on YT tutorial. Ok, I imported all three views (top, left, front). I started from front view. I made cylinder, converted to editable mesh after that i got question - how to slice plane or add more vertexes in front view ??? :( Please help me ! combatace Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 I would advice you to start with some small objects like missiles or bombs like things as they have simple structures. This is because you said you know nothing about max and doing small things will give you a lot of experience an time to get accustomed to workbench. When you know max basic workbench about 90% then you can start with planes. Let me tell you jets are not at all easy to model rather they are difficult. P.S. Try learning through inbuilt tutorials to get acquainted quickly. Alfa Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Like combatace said, starting from scratch with an aircraft model is a little ambitious :) . Anyway, once you have converted your cylinder to editable mesh, you should get a whole lot of options in the drop-down menu to the right - among them is a button that says "slice plane". When you click it, you will get a yellow line across your view ports, which you need to rotate to the axis in which you want to slice your object - once adjusted simply click the button entitled "slice". About the second question; Your background "blueprint" appears pixilated due to the dimensions you have chosen for the image. You should choose a dimension that is "power of two" - i.e. can be continiously divided by two - so instead of e.g. 1000 x 500 pixels you should size it to 1024 x 512. JJ
59th_Krieger Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Hi, I suggest, if you want to modelling this airplane try starting with one plane. The deffault object is too complicated and different in poliy number from my oppinion. If you try this build first just one slice (half plane) from one side of aircraft with extrude edge. It will be done, you continue building (extrude this object what created from 4-5 plane) step by step with nose and the other main body sections. Finally add mirror modifier to your object and define his center (y=0). Try out every new tool's options and values and testing it, if you need you can find some tutorial from how use the tool on YT, WEB and "Google is you friend":D (sry) The YT's car modelling from plane is very usefull so see some video from them and thinking from what can you apply in your project: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuvgrfMxtb4 Good practice. BR Krieger ps: sorry for my english skill, i hope it was understable.
joey45 Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 (edited) Look in my sig... first thread has loads of links.. run max as admin>Customize>Prefances> Viewports tab> Configure Driver> your blueprints should look better. but yeah like the others said. Start small then go large. Edited December 3, 2010 by joey45 The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. BR Krieger ps: sorry for my english skill, i hope it was understable. Krieger you are extremely good at modeling and that an expert can do modeling by moving single vertex but if a noob tries to do that he will end up in a mess. Even if he makes something it will not be smooth enough to taken care by smooth modifier.
