GGTharos Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 They're not modeled in RL either ... ;) I would say russians pilots are trained to fire a salvo of 2 missiles of mixed seekers. (radar guided/Infra Red/Anti-Radiation). Too bad that the third type is not modelled in FC's BVR...could be a lot of fun for the russian birds :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
FLANKERATOR Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 (edited) Few weeks ago, I found a serious and deep source analysing the air power balance in the asia-pacific region where a certain Dr Carlo Kopp was talking about the australian air force case. According to the same source, the status of the R-27P and EP is OPERATIONAL for flankers and fulcrums and this type of missile represents a serious threat as it is denying the reduced RCS advantage of some serious opponents like the JSF or the superhornet. Take a look yourself at the source here http://www.ausairpower.net/APA-Regional-Weapons.html And please do not dare say its only a lobby meant to make australia buy the F22 :) we all know US will never export the raptor. Its a long reading but worthy one. Edited December 8, 2010 by FLANKERATOR Situational Awareness: https://sa-sim.com/ | The Air Combat Dojo: https://discord.gg/Rz77eFj
Sov13t Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 ...also I'm a bit confused about Real GCI..when the GCI gives you a target to shootdown..does it mean the pilot can decide how and when to shoot it down..or are there much more detailed orders that follow? GCI directs the crew towards the target area. Once contact has been established the crew is independent. Radio chatter will go something like this: GCI: "Target to the left, higher 5" GCI: "181 turn 090" 181: "Turning 090" GCI: "Target ahead, higher 5" 181: "Contact with target, permission to work" GCI: "181 work" From this point on the crew is completely independent on what missiles and how many it uses. The crew will report the amount of missiles it used upon finishing. For example: 181: "Finished working, used two" Now, one major factor that is left out is the on-board computer advising pilot what maneuvers to perform in order to achieve the best firing solution. For example, the HUD may display to perform a Gorka (climb) or it can advise firing parameters as to which altitude you should be at to fire, as well as exit maneuvers etc. P.S. keep in mind I am directly translating... better English terminology could be used. 2 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 51st PVO Regiment | Forum | Statistics DCS: MiG-21Bis
GGTharos Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Was this from one of the intercept videos? :) Do you have any information on the data-linked GCI control? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Pilotasso Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 Anyway, back to topic. We had 2 weeks of 80's mission this month which sported similar weapons on both sides. I would like to see more of this soon so that people who dont like to fly against the F-15/120 combo have a chance to see the difference (if any) themselves. Up so far the only thing that surprised me was how much more effective the Sparrow remains over the AMRAAM at shorter ranges (under 13 miles). In Everything else nothing has changed, skill still matters the most. I think Ogreman should have participated. ;) .
