dooom Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 For those of you running TH2G: I am looking at buying the digital edition. I have a NVIDIA 9800 GTX 512MB and the Matrox site says my max supported resolution is 3x1680 x 1050. Q: Do i need 3 monitors running a NATIVE resolution of 1680x1050 or will any decent monitor set work (i.e. 1920 brought down to 1680 through Nvidia control panel) Q: What monitors do you suggest and would ms response make any big difference? WynnTTr Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Might want to have a look at Nvidia Surround and ATI Eyefinity options. I'm not sure all the pros and cons of each, hell I'm not sure if TH2GO is the better tech, but I have seen (youtube) some impressive results from just one nvidia/ati gpu across three monitors. Hell there was a guy that posted his setup of A10 on SimHQ using Eyefinity (or maybe NSurround) on a curved herculean projector screen that filled an entire room - and this was with one GPU - wasn't even top of the line.
Vullcan Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 another vote for nvidia / ati option. TH2G will suffer framerate issues if you have decent settings.
wickedfastball Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Nvidia Surround requires two GTX 400+ in SLI. I think dooom is looking for a three-monitor solution without buying two new video cards. I doubt that scaling down the resolution to the least common denominator will work. The video card doesn't see the monitor directly, it sees the TH2Go. That doesn't mean the Matrox box won't do the scaling for you, but it probably doesn't and it's certainly far from ideal if it does. Now, if you don't mind a minor additional expense (maybe $125 or so) *and* most importantly your motherboard supports it, you can explore adding another 9800 GTX. You can then use the multi-monitor capabilities built in to DCS.
WynnTTr Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 That would probably be cheaper than TH2Go or Eyefinity. I found that thread on SimHQ. Dunno what the cost is for an Eyefinity card v TH2GO but if the OP is thinking of shelling out for TH2GO, this might be a better option. Dunno. All I know is that herculean screen is impressive.
dooom Posted December 9, 2010 Author Posted December 9, 2010 not sure i want to go SLI - to be honest i have not seen any real argument to pursuad me the cost is worth it - i have a 512 mb 9800 gtx at the moment and it runs all the flight sims i have just fine at great settings... 2 of them would be overkill ? that and i and limited with this mobo - no sli on it. the upgrade to sli would imply a major hardware expense to bring a new mobo, GPUs and likely use it as a chance to up my cpu again.. I'll look into eyefinity though... mind you TH2G is only around 300 and it will have cross compatabilities with my other sims. Just really curious which monitors folks are using out there with the TH2g setup Thanks guys! Thanks for your help!:) ad1) A: It would be the best to have 3 identical 1680x1050 LCDs in order to achieve best results at max native 5040x1050 resolution. If planning different ones-You'll be limited to lowest resolution among all 3 (You can't have differenct resolutions on particular screens) ad2) A: I suggest to go through compatibility thread somewhere (I've seen it when I was getting TH2GODigital a while back) and check wheter product will be hassle free. Getting 3 LCDs 1680x1050 (22") makes reasonable choice (personally were using 3xDELL E228WFPc). Mentioned graphic card would pull DCS KA50 on high settings (5040x1050) without problems (about 30% framerate dropoff comparing to 1680x1050)
acemark Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 I am useing a matrox 3htgo digital, nvidia 9800 gtx+, amd phenom x4 9500, 2.2 ghz. Monitors, hp w2207h in center, acer x223w left and right. All 3 are 22" 1680 x 1050 native res., .05m/sec. frequence responce time [you can use a different f.r.t.] but all three must have the same one, and opperate at 60hz. also useing ir4 headtracker. I am very pleased with the matrox in gaming. Frame rate 30-50 in mission editor, all settings low except tex. med.In oil war 1, f.r. can drop to 3, or 4 at times, but averages 12 to 14 in battle, 18 , 24, average flying to the job. In oil war 2 about half way through f.r. dropes too low to play. oil war 3 bad at start ,no good to play. acemark Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 continued from acemark . The matrox and two monitors came close to $800.00 can. I would never go back to single monitor. Highly recomend this device for any gaming. I plan upgrade to i7 , sli in near future. Just really curious which monitors folks are using out there with the TH2g setup Thanks guys! remember when you go triple monitor you're tripling the effective rez and gpu power is more relevant. You'll find games that once ran fine really struggle with the increase in pixels having to be pushed. Also with 512mb of memory you can forget AA at higher rez. People are finding with eyefinity and Nvidia setups that even 1gb of memory isn't enough for AA at ultra high resolutions. dooom Posted December 11, 2010 Author Posted December 11, 2010 thanks guys - youve given me pause - perhaps an investment into a newer vid card is wiser first - then the th2g rig. 512 likely too small for the playability. appreciate it!!!
