Hi gang,

I noticed that by default, the wheel on the right side of the TM Warthog throttle is inoperative, since friction is already provided by the wheel at the top of the panel.

So my question is, what do you guys have that wheel mapped to, in DCS A-10 ? And do you use any modifiers like the pinky lever to assign to it a 2nd function?

Thanks

Hi,

I use the pinky lever as modifire.

I set the Trimmer-cooliehat for zoom in and out and the red Autopilot-Button on the throttle for activateing the NVG.

Posted (edited)

I use Pinky (from the stick) as modifier (advanced TARGET profile).

Currently I use Zoom with the rotary, but this is subjct to change. Is just does not feel very comfortable to release the Throttle Lever every time I zoom in/out. (Can't access the rotary while I am having HOTAS)

That was indeed better with X-52Pro. I had Zoom Axis on the slider, back then. But I'll find a conveniant way to control the zoom, I am for sure!

yep so far my only extra controls i have mapped are paddle+dms up/down for zoom in/out, and paddle+trim for actual trimming (this will change when I configure the TIR5 i just received, i'll re-map the trim switch to actual trimming w/o a modifier).

i'd like to find a good mapping for the CMS push button on the HOTAS joystick, as right now it's mapped to some Z-axis, but I am not sure what it actually does (the CMS up/down/left/right work properly, of course).

CMS push button toggles the ECM between stand-by and off

I haven't found a use for the rotary either. The only extra controls I have configured are the pinkie paddle to zoom in, and the mic switch 'in' to reset zoom.

Good idea, will try it out later this evening.

Frogfoot,

is the CMS push mapped to ECM standby/off by default?

Because when I press it, I see a weird texture popping right below the tape heading on the HUD, which proceeds to block the tape partially, and there's no way to remove it unless I quit the mission.

It's seems to be the default assignment on my system. No weird textures either. It simply turns on the jammer if a threat has been detected.

Its a bug that will be fixed in the next patch release. What pops up is the HUD camera, but somewhere on here Wags said that it was a bug and has been fixed.

That weird texture is the HUD camera; it was acknowledged as a bug in one of the beta forum threads - it shouldn't be popping up when the jammer is activated.

If you have the jammer power on the CMS in manual or semi mode (and possibly auto?) when you press CMS push the jammer indicator will change from 'standby' to 'active'. You can particularly notice the effectiveness of the jammer against Tunguska radars: fly up to when and when it begins tracking you, press the CMS button, the jammer will activate, and the tracking will stop after a few moments.

aha :) Just read page 398 of the user's manual and it talks about the CMS switch.

Maybe I was trying to press it while JMR was off instead of stdby, which popped the HUD camera instead. Will try testing it out tonight.

I'm still trying to get a grasp on the cockpit panels and understand their functionality, and do basic flight maneuvers. Haven't touched a single weapon yet, so it'll be a little while before I read up on radars and evasive maneuvers :)

I use the rotary for zoom view in/out and seems to work OK but I do like the idea noted earlier in the thread to use the pinky and unused Mic switch.

I haven't mapped any additional buttons to the Warthog.. i stick with the default mappings thus far. I do like the idea of using the rotary for zoom in/out though. Are you guys using target to do this or just mapping the rotary directly in game?

I simply mapped the rotary to zoom in the axis section of the options menu. and set the saturation slider to about 50%, so that when zoomed out fully it didn't make it look like I was peering through a fish eye lens.

Well I tested the CMS push button and indeed it activates the jammer (goes from STBY to OPR), but the HUD camera bug is still there, no biggie to wait until the final version is released.

Back on topic, the rotary zoom assignment with 50% saturation is a great idea, until I get TIR5 working. I'm having a lot of problems with TIR5, I cannot get a good configuration going, unfortunately.

Same here...

... first I tried it with the TrackClip but it didn't work too well. It was way too sensitive on the YAW/PITCH axis and it skipped tracking when pitching down very early making it hard to look down in the cockpit properly.

So I ordered the TrackClipPro. It's a little better now, but I'm still fighting with the sensibility issue...

I finally found out my TIR5 woes. It was because I was using the TrackClip with my old TIR3 hat that has an extra reflective strip for _I think_ vector. I switched to another, plain cap I have and put the TrackClip on there, and oh so magically, everything works perfectly.

I thought I'd share that with you guys in case someone else has the same problem.

For those of you that have a Hotas Warthog - simple question: how many USB plugs does it have 1 or 2?

I ordered one yesterday and it will be here tomorrow and I'm hurting for open USB ports.

Remember to plug the WH directly into the computer and not a hub. If anything for the firmware update. There have been reports that the firmware doesn't recognise it if it's through a hub, even a powered one.

I would recommend doing it just in case during a firmware upgrade but for daily use that would be terrible design on thrustmasters part to assume you had to have it plugged directly into the computer.

With my setup and im sure many others, the computer is slightly farther away from the "cockpit" than the stock USB cords allow. I feel better using a QUALITY name brand powered USB hub than getting some USB extension cables.
