Good pick up Loz. The monitor that thread refers to is the 2210 though. CBR9 bought it's successor, the 2220. Dell US just told me that the 2220 can be used as a secondary under Win 7. I look forward to CBR9 confirming this!

Glad I got it wrong for CBR9 :)

Don't know whether they are going to bring that one out for the UK. It's not in their current line up.

Dell seems to have given up putting VESA mounts on their monitors though.

Despite Dell's assurance that the new touch screens are in stock, I received an email this morning... been delayed. They are now talking a delivery by Jan 14. Little upset with Dell, seeing two phone calls assured me it was in stock, and would be shipping.. Gee's would a supplier lie about something like that? Long time motorcyclist, and when at a parts counter and have a parts guy say they can get something in "one to two weeks", my stomach would turn.. the supplier equivalent of the checks in the mail.

Seeing Heilos not released yet, probably give them the extra few days. Backup plan is either the Acer or HP.

I haven't seen anything about the monitor only working as the primary display. I intend to have the one touch screen laying more or less flat in front of my primary monitor, and I'm using Win7. One of the features of the dell, is its adjustable stand. Making something for either of the two other flat screens wouldn't be too much of a problem.

A question for Flim. You show both the Acer and HP on your site. Do you prefer one over the other? One or the other have better features? I'm correct in that the HP doesn't take an HDMI input?

The HP is smaller screen 21" vs the Acer 23". Both there touch features work identically and actually use the same touch controller. They have similar viewing angles.

Build quality the HP wins hands down. The Acer case squished and flexes as I grab it move it, while the HP feels solid. The HP only has DVI and VGA inputs.

One tip if you are laying them flat is flip the upside down. They have better viewing angles that way.

I canceled the Dell monitor, because of the run around. Maybe, they think, can't tell.. it might ship. Vote the only way I know how, with my dollar.

I've decided to go with the HP, got a good price, and prefer the warranty over the Acer (which is "carry in", which means your dime to get it to them). Ordered the HP friday after noon, shipped friday evening and will be here tuesday.

When you get the HP, would you mind telling us about your first impressions and how you've put it to good use in the sim?

No worries. Monitor is supposed to be here my tuesday. Ordered an Ergotron LX LCD arm for the new monitor. Rather then just go with a stand and having to move it when not flying, the Ergotron should allow me to swing it off to the side. Doing a small make over of my desk, moving things around. I'll let you know how it turns out, pictures I hope.

I know that I'm very late to jump into this discussion but If you ask :

"Is a touchscreen monitor a good idea?" only one answer comes into my mind:http://www.veoh.com/collection/Leftside-Limited/watch/v1627326198keXc3X

I think it is a very good idea!

Thanks for the good information in this thread .

Right now I'm also want to order 3three touch screens of my WIP simpit.

Cheers for posting that! That's the sort of idea I had in mind when I created this thread. It seems to me like this setup (using a touchscreen to interact with controls within the 3d cockpit) is less common than using additional touchscreen monitor(s) to display/interact with specific controls. Mind you, with only about 5 days of sim experience, I'm probably wrong! :)

Hey CBR9, how did you go with the new HP touchscreen?

Hi all.

Do you think a touchscreen would work with DCS A-10C? Is it a good idea?

I certainly hope so, LOL, because after deliberating long enough I've ordered the HP 2310ti.

Now I can't wait for it but will put on hold my attempts to make a Helios panel. My substitute monitor is only 1680x1050, so I'll only have to do it all again as the HP is 1920x1080.

Sorry for being so lax... The HP is sitting on my desk, I have it mounted on a Ergotron arm off the the right, so I can move it onto my main desk (had to get a extension for it to reach comfortably. I had planned to tilt the monitor almost horizontal in front of my main 26" monitor..but, and there's always a but.

The Ergotron will tilt 80 deg, but it has to extended in front of you.. not right to left as I have it set up. So.. plan B, I will have it in front of me just more of an upright position, and lowered just below my desk top which should be better for viewing anyway.

the monitor itself is pretty plain jane, the touch works well enough, but it is hard to select something along the edge. I plan on using it for a Helios desplay so don't see a problem. As far as everyday use as a touch screen? I think a mouse works better, but it may just be because its "different" Haven't had much time to play with it. Got it for $239 and free shipping and waiting for offical release of Helios.

I have a second arm for my main monitor that I haven't installed yet.. so I'll be able to position my main screen just above the HP touch screen, and looks like this setup will work pretty well..

When I get things back in order here.. I'll try and get a picture posted. Never enough time...

@CBR9 Thanks for taking the time to share the update with us. Good luck with getting it all up and running to your liking.

An update for me as well.

I jumped into TH2Go and now have 3 screens for my view area. The 2 screens on the side are just regular 23" Acer screens and I currently have my touch display in the middle. The extra FOV is really amazing and I do love it...

But I've had to sacrifice my touch screen as when using TH2Go Windows see's the 3 screens as one so the touch calibration is all screwed up.

I really miss toggling switches with the touch screen in the clickable pit, now.

I've searched google to no avail - there does not seem to be any way to tell windows to calibrate the touch screen so it only uses the middle 1680 X 1050 screen area.

So that being said - a warning to anyone considering this kind of setup. Looks like Helios or something similar is the only way to go, if you're using TH2Go for your main view screen.

Mack, have you tried "fooling" the calibration routine by calibrating in a single-monitor mode, then increasing the size of your desktop across all three monitors? I have no idea whether this would work, but maybe it's worth a try? Also - if the calibration routine stores settings in a file you can get to/edit, that might be worth fiddling with.

Yea, I thought of that and tried to no avail. Good suggestion though.

Gadroc - thanks for the input. I checked Acer's website and you are correct, they do not provide any type of calibration tools so I guess I'm out of luck. I'm planning on getting helios when it comes out so perhaps I'll get another non-touch screen and use the Acer T30H with Helios, down the road. (I actually have 2 of these screens - one over top of my other 3)

Windows 7 uses something called tabcal.exe to calibrate the touch-screens. I found some commands online for increasing the number of calibration points, but nothing that allows you to change the screen area.

Documentation on tabcal.exe is slim to none.

Edit - Too bad I can't install the 3m calibration software and use it for the Acer T230H. (Tried that too! Desperate times call for desperate measures...)

The 3M calibration tool doesn't do it. You have to monkey with registry settings. I have not found a way to do it with the windows native tools.

Ah, okay. Thanks again. If you or anyone else ever finds a way - please do tell. :smartass:

I to have an acer T230h as middle screen and it works with eyefinity. but only

with the game in window mode and eyefinity in expand mode and the left screen set as primary. dont know if th2go can be set the same way, but i think it will, in option i set my res 5760x1920 1 screen, so the menu will start on the left screen but it will expand when u start the sim and the touch screen will work.

sorry for my bad english but it is not my SOI :)

I'm surprised touchscreen drivers haven't addressed this issue long ago - I've seen too many setups that could benefit from being able to define which area of the "screen" was covered by a touch sensor. Being able to define the effective area (similar to how digitizing tablets are calibrated) should be a standard option.

Posted

I agree, Feed. Being able to specify the active touch screen area should be standard fare and built into the Windows config options.

Madwolf: With TH2Go there is no option to let windows see all 3 screens as one separate entity. Windows sees the three screens as one giant screen, unless you deactivate the two other screens, then it just sees the one. The T230H works fine in this manner, but as soon as I enable the other 2 screens via the Matrox config software, the calibration is all wrong.

I appreciate all the suggestions guys, and if I find a fix I'll be sure to post it.

I might try Nvidia Surround and see what my FPS is like that way. If it's decent, I'll sell the TH2Go.
