Hi. I have asked around quite a lot on different forums, and have gotten tons of good advice. I'd like to be a 110% sure nothing is amiss though, as this will be a huge chunk of my money.

Okey, so here are the components I'm planning at the moment:

Processor

Motherboard

Memory

Graphics card

Hard drive

SSD

Powersupply

Cabinet

DVD-ROM

OS

It have been suggested that I go for 6x2GB memory pins instead of 3 4GB for increased performance.

I am also contemplating getting an aftermarket CPU cooler after reading up on that processor a bit.

Any suggestions/input is very welcome. Thanks.

Well I would defeinately get an aftermarket cpu cooler, weheter you plan to o/c or not...cooler the temp the better. On the RAM I would get high quality 6GB, no benefit I have heard of will come from more at present or the near future. PSU is a good brand name and modular is best for airflow so good here, cabinet is large and so will be great for airflow.

Ok great, thanks Mower. About RAM, do you mean higher quality than what I linked? The motherboard is limited when it comes to speed, and I am overshooting my budget limit as it is :music_whistling:

Edit: Do you mean more like this?

I cannot decipher that currency but if possible look at an EVGA mobo as they are excellent for overclocking and o/c is supported by the warranty.

Opinion on the video card...if you get a high end one like that you would not need to overclock it like I did mine. Having said that, if you get a cheaper video card and o/c there is money to be saved there...EVGA supports o/c of their video cards as well.

If you drop the amount of RAM but still go good quality like what you picked, go to a cheaper video card, you could get a better mobo like an EVGA x58.

Currency is NOK. 1 NOK = ~6USD, ~10GBP, ~8EUR, etc..

About overclocking I don't really want to delve into that, at least not initially. My plan is for this stuff (at least the big, expensive parts,) to be good enough to last me a couple of years without any speedbumps, and not wearing it out too fast.

If you do not plan to overclock then, IMHO, your choices are good. I would say that 6 GB of RAM is enough but if you can find a deal by all means go for 12GB, who knows, newer games not out yet may be able to use it.

I choose all my components with an eye to o/c so we are on different pages.

Well, my reasoning is mostly that memory chips are realtively cheap, honestly, as well as preparing for what comes in a year or two, heh :P

Thanks again for the observations, Mower. Much appreciated.

No worries, you're quite welcome...a note of caution however:

since RAM nowdays is not that expensive I would say to get more RAM if you can and disable pagefile completely. With 4GB I had before when I disabled Pagefile I dot message that memory is getting low... when I did an upgrade about month ago I went for 12GB (3x 4GB sticks). 8GB with dual channel and 12GB with tripple channel... but that's me, still it's up to you what you want. And Mower gave goo advice on PSU, make sure it is good quality PSU and have some extra, most PSU work at most efficiency about 75%.

Kuky mentioned an interesting angle I had not considered: being able to disable paging entirely with enough RAM on board. Mind you that would only work with a 64 bit OS like you're planning on. I may have to give that a go.

For an aftermarket cooler i will recommend the CM Hyper 212+. Quite cheap compared to how efficient it is.

Hmm yeah that will save me 200. Thanks, I'll have a look.

About disabling page file on RAM; please talk to me like I am a baby, I really don't know much about hardware. I am thinking 3x4GB or 6x2GB (whatever is best performance value for money) of reasonable quality.

I'm bit too late with my comment now but less RAM stick is better as less channels are run so good choice on 3x 4GB sticks :)

Sandy Bridge? Netherlands?

I googled sandy bridge, seems it's a new kind of processor coming on the market. It's not out yet here in Norway yet as far as I could find, and I'm not waiting for new stuff to come out.. Thanks for the tip though.

I think we shouls stick to english in this forum, mate ;)

The computer is allready sent, so it is too late to change anything now.

120GB should be sufficient for my needs. The SSD is faster than the discs you suggested, as well as way cheaper, I'm on a tight budget here..

About the cabinet you might be right, but this supplier doesn't seem to have it in stock. Perhaps you could provide a link?

I heard the 580 cards are cooling them sufficiently, especially if you don't overclock them, wich I don't intend to do. That is from reviews though, I have no first hand experience.

Anyways, It's bought now, but thanks for the input anyway ;)

nps :) good luck with your new computer m8 :)

Overclocking everything i have :P why settle for less preformance when i have the nessesary cooling to get more out of it :P

kinda like a car... it runs well stock, but you allways want more HP/Torque out of it :P
