yonyz Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Hi, Thanks to some helpful tips I got from another post of mine, and some practice of course, I am finally able to hover my helo above the desired ground. I was able to hover in front of some enemy tanks and locked on one of them. I chose the outer hardpoints for Vikhr and placed its diagonal on that of Shkval's diagonal. I also see the C letter, which means I am pretty much ready to fire. However, hitting Space+RAlt does NOT release any missiles, even when holding it for seconds. Shooting the cannon works, though. Here's a screenshot that, hopefully, captures the relevant panels for you to be able to tell why can't the missiles be released:
EtherealN Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Please capture a picture of your right panel - there's a switch next to the ejection seat arming control that needs to be on. EtherealN Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Hm. I'm not finding anything that strikes me as wrong. What control methods are you using, and are you in game or sim mode? Moving this to Bugs and Problems, as well. yonyz Posted January 16, 2011 Author Posted January 16, 2011 (edited) Control methods? I use a joystick, and racing pedals for rudder control. Is firing a Vikhr done with the same button as firing unguided rockets from the gun pods? Because I have no problem firing those. Edit: Oops, my bad. Apparently, I cannot fire unguided rockets either. I think it's a control configuration problem. I'll check for any misconfigurations now. Edit 2: OK, no joystick button was assigned for the 'Release weapons' option, but the Space+RAlt combination was set. So why can't I fire anything but the cannon? Edited January 16, 2011 by yonyz
power5 Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Flip the switch below master arm to manual. Should fire no matter if you are in range or not. On auto the computer must come up with a firing solution and I have noticed it sometimes doesn't for some odd reason. Also, try turning laser off and back on. Henchman14 Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 I get this too. For some reason, the copter is stopping us from firing. Everything in your pics looks ok. As Power said, the only thing I can ever think of is to just flip launch control to override.
yonyz Posted January 16, 2011 Author Posted January 16, 2011 But will it fire on the locked on target?
ED Team f-18hornet Posted January 16, 2011 ED Team Posted January 16, 2011 When you see "TA" and "C" press again button for locking target to see "NY" and then it has to fire.:joystick: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X, GeForce RTX 2080Ti, 32 GB DRAM, HOTAS TM Warthog, FSSB R3 Lighting, MFG Crosswind, Win 10 Pro
Henchman14 Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 (edited) But will it fire on the locked on target? Well, it'll fire. Whether the missile makes it into the laser tunnel is another thing. The reason you have to line up with the target is that the laser makes a tunnel, really wide at first to catch the beam riding missle in it, then it narrows it down as the missle rides it to the target in a death spiral. As Ethereal said, its looks to just be a bug. And dude, that close, your knife fighting. Use your rockets or cannon for a quick kill, before he gets you with his .50 . speed-of-heat Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 you need to press the fire button for about 1 second ? 159th_Viper Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Another possible troubleshooting technique: Remap the weapons release input to a single keypress: Numpad Up-Arrow is usually a good bet. yonyz Posted January 16, 2011 Author Posted January 16, 2011 I'm actually playing without the ability to die, in order to practice shooting. BTW, I shot HE rounds with my cannon at the tank, about 100, and it won't "die". Weird...
Henchman14 Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 (edited) Lol, you shot High Explosive rounds at a tank. Those are not meant for use against armor. Look them up on Wikipedia, and compare them to armor piercing shot. Huge difference. HE is meant for use against trucks, jeeps, and infantry. Their basically fast, small grenades. They can pierce thin aluminum and sheet steel, but not much else. Use armor piercing depleted uranium rounds against tanks. Also, rockets with shaped charge warheads. If you want a mix of rockets, I think you can load S8 AP and S8 HE together, one pod on each wing. S8 HE rockets are devastating against trucks and inf. Now, on the A10, it loads a mixture of HE and API, I think 4 API, and 1 HE for every 5 rounds. The HE is too kill any inf that may be beside a tank and also to let it engage inf units on the ground. yonyz Posted January 16, 2011 Author Posted January 16, 2011 I actually shot armor piercing rounds as well, but it's good to know what to choose from now on. As for firing Vikhr, I successfully shot 3 tanks down with it. 'Twas awesome. :D
powercrazy Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 I know this thread is old but I figured this might be useful for someone. I'm guessing you have your weapons system in 'training mode'? This will allow you to perform all the normal seek, aim, lock functions but not actually release your weapons when you choose to fire. This training mode switch is the large switch on the left console right beside the four mode buttons or Air/Air Air/Ground and turn to target.... Turn the switch into the 'down' or 'off' position and your weapons should now be able to fire.
