Is it possible, and if so, how, to change the su-27 cockpit to the su-33 one. I'm experimenting with the AI planes with "humancockpit=yes" (well, just flying them in dogfights :p), as you all know they come with the su-27 cockpit, but some of them have tailhooks which can be handy, but won't work on a su-27 pit.

 

I tried to change it, but in the bazar/world/shapes folder there are no "su-33-kabina" files, so is there a way to change it to the su-33 cockpit?

Functionality for features such as arrestor hook, IFR probe etc is hardcoded for each player FM. The cockpits are 3D files loaded by the FMs, so renaming cockpit files does not provide any new functionality at all.

The Su-27 and Su-33 use the same cockpit shape files, so you cannot change it.

But in 1.02 we could fly the F/A-18 off a carrier with a working arrester hook. Is it no longer possible to fly the F/A-18 with a 33 pit?

Hi Subs,

 

In 1.02 you could fly the Hornet with the Su-33 pit by using the entire Su-33 entry as "donor slot" and just swap the external 3D model to that of the Hornet + edit the pylons/loadout.....but that way you are in fact still flying the Su-33, only with the external appearance/weapons of the Hornet.

 

You can of course still do this, but what FF wanted to do is to use the actual F-18 entry(in 1.1 you can do this simply by setting "HumanCockpit" to "yes" in the MEinit) and then provide it with features such as working arrestor hook by swapping the "default" Su-27 cockpit to that of the Su-33.....this However, is not possible because this functionality is coded only for the Su-33 FM, and the cockpit files do not contain the FM code :)

 

E.g. switching the cockpit of the MiG-29 with that of the MiG-29S, will not provide the "baseline" MiG-29 with a working internal jammer ;)

Are there any mods being made at the moment that allow this in FC. The one in 1.02 was alot of fun particularly the F-16, F/A-18, Su30 mod by US Marine. Hopefully someone will do the same sometime.

You can do the model swap yourself (though I always get tempted to add "fictional" loadouts :p)

 

But, yes, it seems like the su-33 pit is linked to the 33 FM. What I thought about was maybe somehow linking the su-33 cockpit to the AI F-18, but I guess you would need a decompiler and source to do that :/
