I personally love employing Vertical Scan in EOS mode when tracking F15s. However, now and then i will get a lock on a bandit and my SU27/33 will automatically switch out of EOS to radar. Admittedly, this is less than ideal when I am trying to secure a stealth attack as a radar signature to an F15 will have him all over you like a fat chick sitting on a BB.

Am i doing something wrong that is causing this switch over? How can I prevent this brief radar kick over and maintain a steady EOS lock?

Thanks!

What ranges are you trying to track F-15's with EOS? remember its not a BVR search mode. If your trying too far the EOS will hand off to radar due to weak IR signature specially if the target changes throttle setting and/or aspect.

Your relying too much on luck like that. ;)

I remember someone saying at about 25km, sometimes the bandit will get a lock tone from you.

Vertical mode is for CiC only, so it will loose track at greater range.

You can get a lock in Vertical/EOS then to secure a stealth intercept, switch to BVR/EOS mode and reaquire the bandit, check IFF quicly again to confirm hostile, then watch closely 2 things:

-EOS glimbal limits on the MFD

-Target aspect on the HUD

Keep your finger on the radar switch ready to switch it off fast enough if the "I" pops up on the HUD. Best EOS intercept aspect is from the bandit's rear hemisphere so help EOS by staying on it as much as you can.

Even if the radar turns on automatically, If you switch it off again fast enough, less than 1 sec , bandit wont get a lock (same duration as for an "IFF" check).

There is no difference in effective range when in VertScan or BVR/EOS mode, difference is in scan patern.

Also if you are using VertScan to search for target(s), make sure the radar is off and have EOS on only showing on the HUD otherwise it will limit your auto-lock mode to about 10km and even if in rear aspect on the target and you should be getting a lock it won't lock if you have radar on

the few times this has happened to me i have been within visual range - I always utilize EOS vert scan in Close combat. sounds like it is an aspect issue - I'll keep the thumb on the radar trigger from now on in case it kicks over.

Thanks guys.
